On my first go-round as MCH (yes, i have done it twice... beacuse I LOVE it!) I also mastered Ranger. After a week I gave it up, and within another week I gave up every single thing in Ranger and moved on to BE. BE is a FAR better supporting role for CH in my opinion - Making cool pets as well ad pet meds!).

Tracking is a joke because animals do not exist in the 'worlds" you are on until you (or someone else) gets near them. I was in several hunting parties looking for specific animals and I would search and find nothing we were looking for, so we moved 150m and there was the animal we were looking for. Pathetic... While we are at it, how about the tents... Giant, super cool tents that are magnets to aggressive creatures. They are supposed to repel animals - lol... I had Rnacors and Krayts run 200m over to my 4th level tents and kill people in them. Traps are fairly worthless, etc... Terrain negotiation is a joke with vehicles, and you do not move much faster than a scout anyway... Only value was being able to harvest more resources, but it's not enough bonus to make it worth the points. I am glad I did Ranger because it was my first holo and it's out of the way, but as a playable class, it is VERY weak indeed... Your mileage may vary...

I just got Novice Ranger yesterday, mainly for the tracking. I was just wondering if it helps with finding the creatures you want to tame. I know some other CHs have gotten Ranger for the same reason, can anyone tell me if it's worth it?

Well, I have tracking IV, and I would have to say 'maybe not'. It does not work for creatures that haven't spawned. Since creatures only spawn when players are present, you generally won't find anything that you can't already see on you're radar unless you are in a fairly high traffic area. Occasionally I have found things that I wouldn't otherwise, but it's alot of skill points to give up.
