Thread: What's CH like post CU?

I played SWG since launch. Always wanted to be a CH, never quite got around to it. When I did finally start on it, they nerfed it. So, I just got back to SWG 3 days ago, I had to temporarily stop playing right before CU came out. Was a Teras Kasi Master/Master Rifleman before CU, but that template is going to change. I wasconcidering Master Creature Handler along with Pikeman, Teras Kasi Master, or Master Rifleman. Are any of these templates still good, and If so which would be the most versatile and allow the easiest soloing or near soloing, only 3 of my friends from before CU are left and we like to stick together. Thanks ahead of time for any information/advise.

Pets are way weaker than they were pre-CU. If you make your peace with that, you may enjoy CH. But if you are expecting them to be good strong tanks for you, forget it... it's not happening now and according to the devs it will never happen in the future. They do not want our pets to act as "meat shields." (What other good the pets are for besides that, remains an open question at this point.)

Also please note that BE'ed pets are still apparently not working right (new ones) and old ones are not converting well -- they basically become equal to a wild tame of their level (if you're lucky). All wild tame pets are entirely level based, so the days of finding a low level thing with low HAM but high resistance in one area, are over, probably forever.

Whether you will enjoy or find CH useful will depend on whether the things I listed above are issues for you or not.

I will say this: don't take CH to be "uber." It's not.

Yeah, I never did trust having pets tank for me. That's why I went TKM rather than Rifleman. Although, if you can manage to find a high enough HAM in a pet, you might be able to snipe a MOB out before it eats your pet's HAM. Then again, your pet won't hold agro and it won't be tanking for you anyway so...

As a melee fighter, tanking for my pet, I find that an /enraged pet makes a nice DoT to go alongside of my TKM skills. I probably wouldn't have been able to solo the varactyl quest without a raging pet. My highest level pet at the time (CL68) and I were barely keeping pace until I turned on the /enrage. Even with /embolden & /enrage, I'm still not sure how well a pet would tank for a ranged fighter.

Does enraged work OK for you or do you have bug issues? I found in the past that enraging them tended to get me the "pet freezing and refusing to attack but stuck in combat mode" bug a lot, so I stopped using it.

I haven't used /enrage a whole lot as I like to keep agro. I probably wouldn't lose it anyway. No, I haven't had any problems with it. I did notice an odd bug though, at least I consider it a bug. When I used /enrage with a pet and a probot out, the probot got enraged too. I think /embolden also worked on the droid. I haven't really played with the droid since.

My pets do alot of that and I don't use the enrage ability.

Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.
