I took out my Blurrg Hunter baby today, to let him feast on
the yardtrash outside Mos Eisley.
My Blurrg is CL 5 (53), so I told him to go chew on some
Rills and Rock Mites.
Incidentally, I glanced at the combat chat. What???
My pet just hit a Rill for 356 points of damage!
So I did some experimenting and came out with this.
Me: level 61.
Pet: CL 5(53), Damage: 8-35 (86-356)
1. Melee.
Grouped with me: my pet hits for 35 points of damage (kinetic)
Ungrouped: my pet hits for 26 points of damage (kinetic)
2. Ranged.
Grouped with me: my pet hits for 356 points of damage (energy)
Ungrouped: my pet hits for 262 points of damage (energy)
So when using ranged attack, my CL 5 baby Blurrg does the same amount
of damage as a fully grown Blurrg!
It's not a BE pet - I tamed him today.
Anyone else seen this?

Animal ranged attacks like spits are funky. My MTKA gets worked by even babies with ranged attacks, even with COB on. I can stand toe-to-toe with a level 80 adult and take almost no significant damage, but then a baby spawns out of the lair and starts spitting and my health drops like a stone.
I have the feeling they have not scaled ranged attacks to actual level in ANY creatures -- pets or otherwise. They also seem much more accurate than melee attacks for animals. When the CU first went live I got killed 3 times in a row by level 79 (blue con) rogue bagerasets from them spitting me to death... But the next day I accidentally aggroed some yellow hostile or other (level 82, can't remember what mob now) and survived. Eventually I started trying to avoid things that spit, and go after things that don't...
Something is odd with spit damage.

spit damage is like poison. It is strong in the baby as it is in the adult. I did report this beehavior over a year ago just in case it was a bug. Found it in my Giant crystal snake baby
