OK, just wondering. What do you prefer as a compliment to your CH profession? Melee or Ranged? Which is better in your expert opinions.

Hehe, there is already another thread that is pretty much the same thing as this.

I say it depends on what you are looking to do in the game. If you want to use your pets for tanks then definitely ranged. Melee professions make better tanks than the pets so if you do a melee profession then you will most likely be doing CH as a side profession for something fun to do when you aren't fighting. Melee fighters don't really need pets. In fact pets slow you down.
In combat situations typically pets = tanks = melee. So a melee profession and pet together in combat is like having two tanks with no healers. It is difficult if you are fighting some big nasty enraged rancor when another one starts beating your pet to a pulp. You have to stop fighting, letting your rancor continue to beat on you, while you run over and heal your pet and start beating on the one that is on your pet in hopes of getting it to agro on you. It just doesn't work very well.
But at the same time a good melee profession, such as TKM, can fight nearly anything in the game so it gives you a lot of flexibility. For example, I'm TKM/MCH. I have no fear at all about running up to a Bull Rancor and killing it and 5 of its friends in hopes a baby will spawn from the lair. There isn't a single "tamable" pet lair in the game that a TKM can't easily tank. This makes it much easier when you are looking for babies. You don't have to constantly worry about dying (although you do have to worry about keeping your mind health up). Your bigger concern is that you don't accidently kill the babies when killing the other 10 rancors that spawn from the lair....hehe.
