I actually wrote some of this in anotherpost and on reflection decided to start a thread
I have seen many people lately in all types of threads say they understand why devs dont read the forums or do any of what we ask. some say our suggestions and game fix solutions are too much to ask, some say we cry in anger too much. to this I say.
The devs themselves ask for our input. that is how and its why the forums exist.
They ask and we give. it doesnt matter if its done tomorrow or next year or if ever. its the practice of trying to enrich the game and exersising our minds and freedom of speech that make the forums what they are. if we getone thing done out of a hundred we have contributed.
For all the people lately who believe people on the forums ask too much of the devs I say remember this.
SWG was once just a website with no code yet written for an actual game it was an idea then.
it was some of the same people you see today here in these updated forums who helped lucas arts with ideas, concepts, and what they would love to have in a mutlti player game. these are the people who helped build the game you have today they should be thanked not put down and shunned. they are also the people who have been disapointed the most at what the game has become and many have left. why? because theyr voices have been silenced and at times ignored. Some are still here and many have come to fill the gaps with idea's game fix solutions, and yes complaining when it needs to be heard, when the game direction strays from its original plan. people may not be heard all the time but on those rare days when someone actually listens, constructive ideas and critisisms do us all justice. We post we hope we wait we help we work for a better game.
People bring the're personalities with them in game and on the forums its easy to see the passionate, the independent, those with common sense, those who are intelligent, those that give, those that take, optimistic people, those who hurt, those who follow whatever authority exist without question. those who question authority in everything. It makes for interesting debate and unfortunatly personality conflicts and resentment at times. sometimes I wonder if its a future job hope that directs some peoples actions here. sometimes I wonder if I am too critical of people not like me. Its what we are inside that directs our action in life, ingame and on the forums
consider this story I once read
when the nazi's came to take the Jews I never said anything
when the nazi's came to take the polish I never said anything
when the nazi's came to take thepeople of color I never said anything
when the Nazi's came to take me there was no one left to say anything.
the people who say the devs dont need our ideas or complaints. that our ideas are too complicated and our fixes will never happen or that its too much work for them to do. these same vocal people would and will fight for you. they work for you also with imagination and passion and at times with just silent support.
I shall give advice, ideas, critisism when asked or needed. I speak my mind, I am honest even with myself, i can look myself in the mirror daily with no shame. or regrets. mistakes I admit saying sorry and not repeating them to back up my words. for in the end words mean nothing if your actions do not support them.
maybe you are like me
maybe you are not
maybe youbelieve silence is golden
you may be right. I dont know, but then in this i say. your silence is practicing what you preach.
I will practice what I preach I speak my mind freely and always will. if I offend you tell me so and let me make amends. If you agree No wordsorstars areneeded:-)
Thank you all for listening to me

I think the Devs do read the forums. They just can't read every post in every thread -- it's a numbers thing. That's why we have Correspondants to be specialists and keep track of what the various sub-communities in the game are talking about.
From what I have seen, and not just in the CH forum, players often have unrealistic expectations about what the Devs can/should do and it leads to frustration, anger, bitterness, and downright crankiness when things aren't done fast enough and in line with player expectations.
Input and discussion is always a good thing, but a good idea won't always be implemented in 6 months or even a year, primarily because of resource constraints. It is frustrating for everyone, including myself at times, but that is reality.
I think a great, recent example is furniture. Even during Beta, players wanted furniture like bookcases and armoires to be able to hold items. Heck, the Devs even chimed in and said "Great idea!" Just yesterday, in the Test Center Update Notes, this has finally been implemented (on Test Center). Why did it take so long? Was it not a good enough idea? Are the Devs too busy playing Naked Twister in the server room to do real work?
I think everyone should feel comfortable participating in discussions and giving input. You'll probably be a lot happier though if you realize that the input you give today may not be the Devs top priority and even though your idea is a good one, it may end up at the bottom of a very long list. If you want to argue about the Devs' priority choices, I'm sure SOE would be willing to look at your resume and consider you for a job.

I am notreallyyou understood what this is and whatI was saying
Iwasn't asking why's or how comes nor was I saying the devs should listen or if they even do. and for the record I have a job.
I wrote this in hopes of people not discouraging ideas and suggestions
of people understanding differences in personalities and maybe thinking twice before posting something for the wrong reasons. I am guilty of writing things for the wrong reasons but usually realise it it before submitting the post and close it.
there is no debate here and no answers, just personal reflection. I do not take offense in your reply nor should you in mine it is what it is and you take something away with you or you dont as always your choice

Yup. I was just adding to the discussion.
I have been accused of trying to moderate and stifle discussion on this forum recently, so I want to make it clear I in no way think discussion is bad. I didn't read your original post as addressed at me or targeted towards me, but I wanted to make it clear where I stand and help those that might be advocating a position of "discussion is bad" see where discussion works.

I know your reffering to me. You have your opinion and I have mine thats the way it is and will always be. I may not have the best way with words but I will always continue to voice my opinions no matter what. I have stated this before and will state it again their are a few things that will always cripple our profession and I just want to see those fixed first before adding a bunch of new content.
1. Stacking CH with other combat profs will always cripple us in the end. Because the dev see that as to much power if they would do away with stacking we could become a working profession again
2. Bugs like pets warping andautostoring. Im tired of winding up in the cloner because my pet decided he wanted to take a vacation about 5,000 m in the opposit direction of the rancor he was fighting or just dissapearing into the datapad.
I would love more new content like mountable rancors and pets mounted with weapons but I dont want the devs thinking that we want more broken content instead of having what we have fixed. In the end it wouldnt matter how big of a gun you put on your pets back. When he pops back into your datapad and leaves you alone facing whatever angry mob your trying to face its hello cloner!

Hey no hard feelingswere all a little on edge lately and thats complimented by my way with words or lack their of. I have alot of time to browse the fourms cause I gotta wait for microsofts new firewall system to get out before my IT dept can get games to work on my campus
. Getting SWG to work with this network has been like waiting for the combat revamp.
Devs say "Wait til the combat revamp and it will all be fixed"
Our IT guys say "Wait for the new firewall and it will all be fixed"
Im just so tired of the runaround.
Yea send me ur IM name.

I am not reffering to you lol
sorry i did reply back to the post I originally said something like this.
believe me this isnt directed at you or anyone in particular. honest after I wrote the post on the other thread I
was thinking about how many times ive seen people post with a discouraging tone.
believe me i understand the disapointment and likelyhood of what will be done and in my followup on the other thread I agreed with you.
On the developement forums I see it alot and on the shadowfire forums
The only reason I posted this here and not on those forums is because I care about ch and I believe we can make a difference. even if its so small you cant see it. lol
Honest Joker this isnt about you, but in replying to you it did give me the idea to start a thread and hopefully shine a little light in a few hearts.
Why would I speak of personality conflicts about you when I dont even know you. and truth be told I have noticed your name in the forum and usually like what I read.
This is a general post on things I have seen in many forums on many issues
and I hope you believe what I am saying. all i can add is pm me and if you would like to talk il send you
my instant message name
