I just killed a Great Plain Stalker Baby by hitting StrafeShot 2 accidentally... */cryfest*...

I feel your pain.
Last time I was CH I hadSS2 andTameas the F10 and Shift F10 keys respectively and I would go through the '...and now I just need to hit the Tame key and the critter is in the bag...(Explosion)...ARGHHHHH' frequently, but never with a rare like the GPS though. In the end whenever I was about to tame something special, I would use about 5-10 sec to verify that I was about to hit the right key.
This time around I made sure to have all the taming related keys in the F1-F4 section and all attacking keys in the F9-F12 section. I have only had 1 mishap so far

that's rough...it took me over 40 spawns to see my baby, don't know how long you have been looking...here's a tip: unequip your rifle before you walk up to any baby, then if you accidentailly hit a lethal attach, you will just slap the baby for like 15 points of damage..it will aggro you and you just run in circles for 3 min spamming peace, and try again...how do i know this..lol...i once hit flushing shot 2 on a swampie baby(right next to tame on my toolbar) all i had to do is break aggro and then tame

That is rough.
It's a tricky business, taming rares. You undauntingly seek out those random spawns, patientlykilling eachadult in hopes of that beautiful yellow dot and once that baby does appear, that's when the tension really starts.
If it makes you feel any better, a Screecher (baby) just pfffd on me a couple days ago. As if the Devs put it there to dangle in front of my face only to rip it away from me when I reached for it.

OMG..........Dude I feel for you, I really do. I have been looking for the GPS for a long time as well.
