Thread: About to give up on the GPS

I started playing about 15 months ago, CH was the first profession that I started working on. About halfway through the profession grind, I heard about the Great Plains Stalker. The first post I remember seeing was titled "Great Plains Stalker: is it a myth?" or something like that. So I rushed to www.swgcreatures.com and sure enough there it was listed there with some waypoints to check out. So off I go as a low level CH. Never saw one finished the grind to master and played that for a while and then gave it up. Shortly after I see my first Great Plains Stalker and had no coice but to kill it (being as I was no longer a CH)

Well then I heard about the great CH upgrade of Publish 21 and I get excited. So back to the CH grind I go, mastered it and am doing quite well at getting specials. I have been to corellia almost everyday since publish 21 went to every waypoint that I can find, did every trick that has been listed to get one of these elusive critters. I am almost ready to give up on my lifelong (SWG Life that is) dream of being the proud owner of a GPS. It's no longer about haveing an elite pet with the specials that come with it. It is the principal of it now, I HAVE TO HAVE ONE. Any advice that anyone can give me to help me out, or any sunrunner CH's that want to help me would be greatly appriciated. If I found one, even an adult, I could work it until I tame it.

Thanks for your time.

I think someone should have had the decency to tell me the luncheon was free. To make someone run out with eopie pie in his hand, pretending he's throwing up, is not what I call hospitality.

Say, if you figure out how to tame an adult, drop me a line and I'll head on over to your server and start up a new character. I've always wanted my own Krayt.

I know your feelings on this. I have been questing for that darn Bull Rancor since I respec'd to CH. I'm told it's not as rare as it used to be, but it's still pretty darn elusive. Ah well, try, try, and try again.

You can't tame adults............duh. However, you can mark the spawn with a wp and fly 500m off and the spawn will reset. If you do it enough you might get lucky and get a baby. I did that with my stoneskin hanadak (sp?) and it worked like a charm.

The only advice I can give is patience. These are really, really rare to find (despite what you might read from a lucky few on occassion). You can go a long time without ever seeing one, especially if you're on a server like mine where the Riverlands region is a barren wasteland devoid of life.

If you find it getting to you, take a break from it for a bit. Try again later and maybe your baby will be waiting for you.

Found one and am doing the fly away 600m go back to spawn as I type this. I don't think the server is resetting the spawn, because once it pops up it's ALWAYS in the same location as last time I saw it. Even if I waited for it to move and then went off, it'd be in the spot it moved to.

I even went 600m waited for 1 minute, went 800m then back, 800m waited 1 minute. Now I'm up to 1000m. =/

I had one camped outside of my vendor for 2 days within the last week. My friend and I used to hunt them every day and mark every spot that we saw them at. Our wps eventually dotted a river that started just northeast of Coronet that runs north and south. We would work both sides of that river every day and Usually find one. We made a 100m pass on both sides of the river... If we didnt see one in that pass.... we wouldnt see one all day. After workin the river for about 3 weeks I finally caught one and gave it to him. This was all preCU thou on the babe.

Nice.

I guess the wandering does work, must just be the way I was looking at it.

Oh well, i found another spawn while wandering 1000m so I just go between them now. Nothing as yet though. *gets set up for a long night*

[EDIT]: On that note, would you ever buy one from another CH? I wouldn't as I enjoy the hunt personally, but some just want the rares, without all the frustration.

Or if you tamed an extra and all your friends had one already, what would you sell it for? Seeing as they are extremly rare I would think anything less than 2mil is cheap.

My friend and I have spent a lot of days together doing the run-down on cats and other rares. Without his help of sharing the wps and hours of his time to find the cat I would not have found it. It was a team effort between us. He enjoys the cat, I enjoyed the hunt. I would never sell a wild rare to someone. I have caught other rares and given them away also and that there has given me a long friendship with other ch's on my server. The gifts that kept on giving

I had never seen an adult and had searched three times for one at given waypoints. Two days ago was suppose to meet guild members on Corellia so I started looking, went to first waypoint.Nothing; So I killed everything there but NPC's.On the way to the next waypoint I couldn't believe my eyes Great Plains Stalker (baby);3 tries and some tameing food and she was all mine.Frenzied Blitz L2 also.Tamed on Flurry 1637 -416.
And I still have never seen a Adult in the wild.

i hope this givs u hope, i was ready to give up on this critter after 6mths of surching for one, then found an adult
(pre CU) so it was kill it and wait for a spawn, 3 adults later and a baby spawns. Well i of corse got ready to tame,
it agros me, so i run keeping a eye on the baby, unfortunetly there were rebal npc base's close and in there hast to help
a fellow rebal they killed the baby. i carnt put into words how this felt, i stoped hunting for a bit not able to face it.
However eventuly i started looking again and a few months later i found another baby and was sucsesfull.
so i'd advise having a brake and then see, they are there and very much worth it.

I wrote in another post how I finally found an adult for the first time ever, and then my internet went out 20 minutes later. It ticked me off to the point of considering switching from Comcast cable to DSL

But I went back at it. Since then I've spent 3 or 4 hours searching the Correlia plains and have yet to find another adult.

I've taken it a step further now. Since I just returned to SWG last Friday, my accounts have 3 weeks of free respeccing. So with my alt doctor account, I activated it and he is now a MCH/ Master Ranger and is doing the looking for me. Hopefully that will make this a bit easier.

The sad part of this is that I'm master ranger/master creature handler and it hasn't been any easier being a ranger.

The problem with ranger and area tracking is the dynamic spawn system. As described with the 500m method, as soon as there is no player around, the spawn disappears and therefore is not trackable. So it's almost useless.

I have found an adult and trying since 3 hrs. to get a baby... no luck so far.
