Thread: Pets rather than droids for combat (a question from a customer)

My good Creature Handlers,

I have had a number of pets over time but they were all used as mounts. On the rare occasion that I would have the pet join me in combat they pretty well got thumped in short order. I have combat droids but would like to hunt and fight with a pet for a while rather than the droids. As a non-CH, can the pets I'm able to manage (CL10 as a max I believe) be used effectively in combat (I'm a CL80 Master Ranger/Master Rifle). In this case, I suppose I wouldconsider a pet to be"effective" if it were say roughly as able in a fight as a Probot.

Any thoughts from this fine community on this subject would be appreciated.

Being a DE and a CH, I can say that CL10 pets are not as effective as any CL30 combat droid. That being said, CL10 pets are not slouches when you group with them (assuming you are above their CL). Even though their health is around the 1700 range (droid has 3742) and max damage is around 200 (droid is 284), they can last a while as long as they don't draw too much aggro. Nickel and dime is what they'd be good for.

A CH can teach your pet some tricks that you might find useful. KD, armor break, stun, blind, added damage, etc, etc. Take a look at the pet specials sticky.

Now that might be just the thing, droids can't KD. Getting a pet with that ability, inconjunction with my Firearm Strike would be two KD's per creature engaged. Nothing survives that much time on the ground against a Master Rifle. Great idea!

As stated already, I just want to reiterate. The use for NON-CH pets is now the states that a creature can land: Knockdown, Intimidate, Stun, Blind, Bleed. A level 30 droid is typically better for straight damage, but they don't have the states. A level 10 pet will not last in a battle if you try to use it to take any damage away from yourself -- you need to attack before, or at the same time as the creature -- but it can land states, leaving you to land the damage.

A low level pet that's been around a block with a CH and having a few nice abilities would be pretty sweet compared to a droid, which can only do minor tanking and damage dealing.

Hell, CL10 pets with Hunted Withdrawal and KD would probably be worth a lot to players. They don't overgenerate aggro and they have a useful function.

OK as a high level bio eng and ch i can answer this with some knowledge - i guess
CL 30 droids hit higher than cl 10 pets BUT
MY CL 10 pets i make have over 3000 health and that is current crafted pets. Pets can be taught specials. and they have no upkeep cost
droids have i think 3500 health or thereabouts they have no specials and u need to constantly buy batteries to power them. Also something to note at present droids can be healed by medics in the field I understand this is a bug and in a future publish you may see this nerfed meaning you will be buying droid repair kits all the time or ordering your droid with auto repair slot meaning the droid will be weaker at damage as a self repair slot in a droid means you need to leave out a combat slot.
Its horses for courses. Droids wen incapped at present stay in a heap on the ground and dont recover when healed pets get up when healed.
Ican make two types of level 10 as a bio eng a 3000health pet with 128 max damage or a lower health pet with 240 max damage.

the choice is yours

i think im pet biased because im ch too but if in doubt buy both.

KD doesn't seem to last very long. I'd think Hamstring Attack, which slows the target down, would be a better alternative to a ranged fighter.

I'm a master CH so maybe I'm biased, but I definitely prefer a pet over a droid. Mostly for reasons already mentioned, but pets can be tailored to your needs so much more than a droid can. Droids can't really be tweaked with specials the way a pet can.You donot need loads of droid batteries or repair kits, andareable to heala petin combat when it gets incapped and have it get back up immediately.

Those are just my opinions, however, and I suggest trying out both to see what fits with your play style better. Grab a droid and grab a CL10 and do a few lairs with each and see how they compare I think you'll find the specials a pet can have will really complement your combat professions nicely

Good luck!
