Thread: Why is everyone bashing Creature Handler these days?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what was the big deal about saying that CH is a useless profession and is crap? Strangely enough, for most "combat" characters I create, I always took a bit of CH to help myself grind the profession. Even if it was for my Bounty Hunter on one server to my Teras Kasi on another and my Smuggler-in-the-making on another, it has been very helpful for me to solo missions on Dantooine.

Sure okay, tamed pets aren't all that great compared to bio-eng pets, but if you find a good vendor (or friend who can make you one) then CH is definatly worth having.

If you read the actual posts and not just the titles, you find that they are often directed at PVP. Beyond that, you will see that posts very similar to yours in response to them have been repeatedly shot down because it's your combat class that's doing the work, CH is just a help. In this game, there are combat classes and non-combat classes, and the distinction is a pretty bright line. Except with CH, which, on its own, is tied with squad leader as the absolute worst possible combat class imagineable. CH can't be considered a non-combat class, because there is no way for CH's to accomplish anything "non-combat". We can't sell our products on vendors or on bazaar. We don't get tipped for performing services in front of Coronet starport or in the cantina or medical center. So you're right back at being the absolute worst combat class imagineable.

I have pistoleer skills. I simply cannot imagine how difficult CH would be if I were an architect/CH and relying on CH to be my combat class. I notice when you listed out the classes you've paired with CH, you didn't put "dancer" or "weaponsmith" in there. Care to explain why?

Better yet try being a MSQL/MCH or MRGR/MCH.

I have found renewed fun in MCH myself. Not because of MCH, but because I am doing pistols. It is really fun to set two BE Graul on the lair and fanshot. They do not run from lairs. This suggest that the distance to attack is the problem with creature combat. Secondly, they only run if they get low on HAM which I truly can cope with. So you see the fun in being CH is not in CH itself. It is what CH allows me to get away with that I could not otherwise.

I will not even go so far as to call CH a support class. We do not really support other group members. We are not guaranteed to win agro off something attacking a group member. SQL does atleast have group benefits. CH pets will run drawing the MOB with it and making groups not really want us. Now that melee types are stronger than pets we are not needed. The only thing being CH supports are soloist like myself.

We do suck in PvP it is not bashing it is pure truth. The vitality loss of pets is hardly worth pulling them out. If weapons suffered 50% decay from PvP like our pets suffer in Vitality loss from griefing people would quit the game in mass. Our pets are have little effect on PvP unless you are lucky enough to land the mysterious special attack (also broken). Our pets in PvP are much like a doctor who cannot buff or rezz.

The character that I am hologrinding Squad Leader for picked up CH so she can group 2 pets. That is the most usefull thing, as she already has decient carbine skills. CH is just a SL XP multiplier for her.

Well, I personally have a problem with the "disappearing pet" issue(s), which seems to happen at the worst times... like when a creature is trying to turn my skull into tapioca pudding. Last night, it happened twice in a half hour of play. I was a "little" ticked-off, to say the least. I had to run my butt off to get away, find a spot for a camp, and re-call the pet... only to have it happen again shortly there after.

It would be like a pistoleer dropping his pistol while in combat, not being able to pick it up, having to run like hell to get away, put down a camp, and then get the pistol out. Sounds like fun, right. Exactly.

I personally would be happy if SOE didn't come out with any NEW content for the CH profession... BUT DID fix the bugs, and perhaps retuned some of the pet stats. The fact that I could probably slap a creature to death faster than my Razor Cat could... well, lets not even start that subject.

I'm going to MRGR/MCH and hell yes why not i'm a wookiee also, can i make it worse? Yes i can i take some medics or whatever non-fighting skillsi can get with the 47 skillpoints I have spare. But no i have to take some fighting skills to do something in PvE, so i try pikeman. I realy can say it wasn't a good choice if i get aggrod by a spawning creature. I realy need my pet to tank otherwise i'm a dead furball. My choices my be weird to someone, but hey i'm here to roleplay not to bash up everything i can hit. If that was the case i would get master tka/master doctor so i can keep myself buffed and with the fast attackspeed and good damageoutput and the defences i can beat a lot out of you. But no i love the roleplay not the fighting.

PS: the master tka can also be master fencer (a bit slower in attack but a good dodge can mean a lot of difference)

Currently I'm a Ranger 4344 (i hate survival xp) ,MCH, and TKN. So far that combination isn't bad for soloing but after I find the rare creatures I'm looking for I think I'm going to drop ranger or CH.

basically all ch is anymore is a trophy profession....

for example

look i am a master ch, i caught this rare creature ( lvl 3324334 10% resist 10kham )
then its...look i dont even have half a tree done in CH and i am using a BE pet that could whip the ass of your rare tamed pet with your face

BE pets pretty much took whatever fun there was in taming pets, and the fact that not having any high lvl GOOD pets unless its BE'd hurts again too. Whats the point of hunting and taming pets if you can walk to a vendor and get one at a lower CL lvl with better stats?

eh its just not fun anymore when a CH should be a good tank..a good combat class...but isn't compared to all the other professions.
