Thread: Ranged attack: a bain or a bonus?

Now I'm a MCH and no longer in need of XP, I honestly think ranged attack can be more of a hindrance than a help. When I was levelling and wanting XP, a ranged aattack on a group hunt can rake in the XP pretty quickly. But now, I want my pets to go in and tank, taking the damage and keeping the MoB away from me. If they use ranged attack, this completely defeats the object of the exercise since it brings the MoB closer to me, unless I make my pets stay and move away from them, of course. I use a mixture of wild pets and BE pets I make myself and I'm really quite pleased when a ranged attack doesn't come up in the template.

I was just wondering how other CH feel about this.

Just my 2 Cents...

Ranged attack is useful if it is on your secondary pet that does not act as your main tank. I have a bio engy Cu Pa now that has ranged attack and acts as my mount. I like to call a level 50 Tank pet and my lvl 20 Cu Pa as my 2 pets for hunting. I cansend the tanking petinto the fray while having my Cu Pa simply attack from a distance so he does not get stomped. Saves a little time on having to heal the Cu Pa after a battle.

It is much better now that you can toggle Ranged Attack on and off just by using your ranged attack command. You can use Ranged attack when desired now.

Anyway, just thought I would give my humble opinion on this topic!

Peace!

Since we're on the subject of ranged attacks If a pet has 2 special attacks and a ranged attack which type of attack will he use as a ranged attack? Is it the first special or am I totally off on what the attack types is?

A ranged attack is independent of the two special attacks. I've been getting a little practice working with the ranged attack modes with my new R3 droids and I can tell you the implementation isvery poorly executed. Why would they have you toggle a ranged attack mode instead of simply having you order the pet to fire a ranged attack? Very kludgy and not very reliable. I have a devil of a time convincing my droid to change modes, more often getting stuck in ranged attack mode. Be wary of this if you are relying on your pets as a shield.

Ranged attack is very buggy. I'm still leveling up but I've been testing and found that once a pet with ranged attack get incapped he no longer uses the ranged attack until he is stored then called back out. Maybe that will help a little, then again you'd have to incap your pet for that to work But none-the-less after the pet has been incapped I have never seen him ever use a ranged attack until I pulled him back out. Now because I'm still getting XP that's a pain but maybe it'll help some of you with the problems.

Even with ranged pets (I have 2 lvl 35 be pets I use) they can still tank for you. I use the "follow target" command until they are right up next to the mob, then get them to attack. Works great.
