Thread: Why Jedi Mind Trick Shouldn't Matter To CH

(1) Mind trick is an ability only for Jedi with Master Force Powers. The thing is that almost every single Jedi will either get (a) master saber, master enhance, heal 4004 or (b) master saber, master heal, enhance 4004. Almost no Jedi will get Master Force Powers because that tree is relatively useless compared to the other force skill trees. So very few Jedi will have this power in Live.

(2) Mind trick has a high force cost. Its a more efficient use of force powers to just kill the pet with saber specials. Remember, pets do almost NO damage in PvP, so its not like Jedi are running around thinking "omg, i hope that CH doesn't attack me in PVP else I am toast". It would take a typical Jedi 5 seconds to kill ur pet. Using mind trick would be a pure vanity move - looks pretty and very inefficient.

(3) You shouldn't be getting into a tizzy about this. Your anxiety is misplaced. It should be focused on how pets are useless in pvp against ANY combat class (rifle, CM, tk, fencer, sword, etc), not just singling out Jedi.

You are forgetting something major. We are already reballanced. In two months, Mind Trick could be the way to go, for all you know, based on how creatures will stack up against other classes including your own.

So if this is the case....why do you care if it is removed? Pull it out of the game. You apparently don't care to use it either. Don't come in here telling us not to be upset about a skill that makes our entire ELITE profession useless when you yourslef say it is a skill you and most will never use.

Ahh..nothing like knowing that our own loyal pets can be turned against us by a jedi just "showing off". Gee I wonder how upset the BHs would be if there was a skill that allowed jedi to just take the gun out of their hands and shoot them with it....after all it did happen in EP5...Vader pulled Han's DL-44 from his hand it pointed it back at him in the dinner room after all.

Ahhh yes that's brilliant...why didn't we think about that....aparently we are not nearly as wise as you great Jedi. Getting the pets more powerful in PVP is something we are working on, it is also what will destroy us when they are finally worth having and the jedi all start using the skills to turn our "new imporved and revamped PVP capable pets" on us. Thus pull the skills, and improve the pets abilities in PVP so we can be something more than an after thought in PVP, or worse, a way to amuse jedi when they use it as a "pure vanity move" as we are now.

Then reserve the hysteria until the CB. Until then, there's nothing to freak out about when it comes to Jedi Mind Trick.

---> If your argument is "this is an intangible slap in the face", then you're correct. This is a bad thing. For me personally, I am more worried about the practical mechanics of combat in SWG and less about the intangibles. I am guessing that you're the type of person who loves CH because you love looking for rare but combat useless pets like the sludge panther or bull rancor.

I would rather focus my time on first ensuring pets get improved in pvp rather than wasting my time on jedi mind trick. if you succeed, great. i am just saying, i think in a practical sense, it should be the least of your worries. from a vanity/ego perspective, i guess its something worth fuming about.....

So you're saying we should just wait until its too late, and then wait another eight months before they fix that too?

no, wait until you have more details on CB. wait until you see CB on TC. it will be a more practical discussion then.

The problem is that the CB is not going to happen anytime soon (like december is my prediction) despite the fact we were "balanced" last december.

You do know what (ass)uming does don't you. All my pets are hand picked for their effectiveness in PVE and in hopes of PVP. I have no panthers..I do have BE Razor cats though..and I would hardly consider the bull rancor as a "useless pet" to be put in the same class as GSPs. Also, that "intangible slap in the face" is a pretty big "Practical Mechanic" when the jedi turns my cl56"desgned for PVP" razor cat on me and my CH/smuggler skills.I guess I could always FD.

Lets see....what is harder to do...finally rebalance pets in PVP...or pull 2 skills from the jedi tree that many of them even agree is not going to be used much? I would imagine that we are going after the easiest solution now and then we can kick back and work on the devs for getting our pets fixed in PVP.

And yes the thought that as a MCH, my best pets, ones I raised from their birth and taught all they know, can be used against me by a jedi for entertainment is worth fuming about.

It's a practical discussion NOW. I for one am not going to play "wait and see" while people get used to having skills that command another profession entirely. it would have been a practical discussion the instant the code went in if anyone had told us about it.

guys, u are fighting for a pyrrhic victory. this is a red herring. spend your efforts on something substantial. getting rid of jedi mind trick will just put where you were in publish 8 -- your pets are STILL useless in PVP.

They won't always be. If we were to give up this fight and switch instead on making our pets viable in PvP, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot because our now powerful and effective pets could STILL be taken away and used against us while we can do nothing.

In my opinion this issue is much more important than having viable pets in PvP. This has the potential to affect every CH, whereas PvP will realistically involve 40% of us even if pets are improved. We don't know how this is going to evolve. Tangible or not, this will be setting a precedent for a new level of incompetence.
