Thread: Am I doing something wrong, or missing the point?

Hi - quick question for you.

I dont use buffs and rarely use armour and when I do it's fairly light.

One of the tactics I've been trying to use as a CH is to keep my pets in reserve and conceal shoot from range (whilst maskscented) at least weakening them sufficiently to send the pets in for a killer blow.

Or at least that's the intention! Sometimes I get aggroed by a bunch of nasty critters out for my blood, which is why I keep the pets in reserve - to tank the critters before they get to me, and to draw the aggro away onto themselves. I was under the impression that this works (at least for other people) but it seems that most of the time the critters keep going for me no matter what gets in their way. Staying still, running away, trying to peace, none of it seems to make a difference.

So - am I wrong in my choice of tactics (ie, it doesn't work like that) or am I doing something else wrong?

Cheers,

Nah, looks like youa re doing it right. Unfortunatly, some times when they target you, you can send in your pets and it will still taste for your blood. Depends on if they can draw the beast in time. I usually send my pets in first then hammer at it with specials and such, usually never get charged then.

Once something goes aggro on you, it will stay aggro on you until something/someone else attacks it - then it goes aggro against the new attacker.

This definitely works when the new attacker is in melee.

I'm MTKA, and MCH, if a group of mobs aggro me, I send my pet to attack one, it goes after my pet, but the other are still after me. I usually have to either take out the rest of the mobs, OR target one, and tell my pet to attack it...rinse, repeat for the remaining mobs.

I use Wallach tactics, it's more safe if you send your pet to tank first

Awww...someone recognized me and called it "Wallach's tactics" I feel special. FROM THIS DAY FORWARD IF YOU SEND YOUR PETS IN FIRST TO TANK A MONSTER AND ATTACK FROM AFAR, IT WILL BE KNOWN AS THE WALLACH MANUVER!!!!

And there was much rejoyce.

*real bland* yeaaaaah.

Seriously, Q'pla (Mountain Dewback) and Jeff (Wrix) both seem to like hitting hard and hitting fast on lair of dune lizards and such. Unfortunatly Q'pla finally hit level 18 and I only have a level 31 skill, so can't use the pair anymore, but Lung is still under level 18 so I can still have some fun. heheheh

Well, the Hawat manuver is to send one pet to attack and keep the other one on guard. The second does not have to be high level. He just has to be high enough not to get wasted immediately. You immediately switch your attack to the mob on the weaker pet. Send big pet in most will aggro him the ones that do not are picked up by the second one.

How do you direct commands to individual pets? Its an interesting concept but /say and /tellpet seem to be universal unless you are training each pet with a unique set of commands

Well, I do it with different command names for each pet I use in combos.

Pet 1 Attack=a

Pet2 Attack=aa

Pet 3 Attack=aaa

You can also do this by leaving the name in front of the command and typing Fido attack. But, I am lazy. lol

Ouch I have too many pets that change way to often as I level up to give them unique commands. Thanks though that is what I was afraid was required.

I have a couple of animals that I termed my "second cycle" pets, ones that I was to go in second to a fight. I give second cycle pets a different attack command than my primary pets, and just fire them off in order. That way I don't have to remember a chain of different commands for every animals, just if its first into a fight or second.

I never use the guard command; you can never tell if it takes, or if its disabled. I just keep a close eye on my radar and keep anything targeted that might come toward me if its so inclined.

Store the pet, call the pet, type ctl-1 to target yourself, give the guard command.

I keep meaning try and see if the guard is a toggle but oh well I know that storing the pet erases the guard so I know the state it is in
As to multiple pets I use the a,aa,aaa form and often use pets in sets of 2 or 3 that are the same 2 or 3 so dont need too much retraining.
the follow and group commands match the attack commands so I can refresh my memory of which pet has which commands. If you don't can't use
these you can place the name of the pet in the command and then your /tellpet would work like spatial cause /tellpet sam kill would be the same as spatial "sam kill"

As for tactics I send in a pet to take aggro then beat on mob(s). If things get harry I send in the 2nd pet. The third stays with me to guard. If in a group the 3rd or 2nd and third stay with me to send to assist teamates if they get unexpected attacks. I then rotate thru which pets stay with me (and get healed) and which attack.
