I have recently returned to SWG after a nearly year-long break and I've been thinking of taking up the CH profession as my main pursuit. I have been reading through the threads here about the current status of the profession and the issues the CH community is facing. One of the more frequent complaints that Isaw was that it is difficult for a CH to produce revenue from just selling pets and mounts. It dawned on me that there could be potential for a CH to make a living on his profession if certain skill could be added to the CH tree.

The idea is for the CH to effectively be able to become a rancher. That is to hold and maintain a "herd" of domesticated creatures. The maintained herd would enable the CH to gather resourcessuch as milk, eggs, or wool/fur from the herd for sale much like any other resource gatherer does. THe advantage would be that the animals would not have to be killed to produce these resources. They could be "mined" so-to-speak for them. The payback would be that the CH rancher would have to provide food/water and most importantly, protection from predatory creatures, for the herd while their commodidties matured. THe herd, if kept long enough, could breed and produce offspring that maybe could have custom qualaties depending on the care of the parents of the new pack animal.

Thoughts?

Just another quick thought..

The feeding of the animals could come from grazing them. A survey for plant material could determine the location for the herd to graze. After a period of time, the herd would have to be moved causingthe CH to initiate a "cattle drive" of sorts. This is when the danger of protectiong the herd from predatory attack would come in since the moving herd would be encountering creature spawns along the way.
