Thread: Okay, the content is there, now how about letting us have some fun with it?

The Friday Feature today states that swoop racing is in testing on TC. There is a droid that records racing times around three different tracks, and you can earn a badge for it.
Why not also have that droid record times on mounts? I don't think that would be terribly difficult, and it would give us CH's something to do.

I just tried all three of the race tracks. Very intense and very very fun! 
Each of the three has their own "personality" and racing style (smooth curves on Tatooine, sharpninety degree angles in Keren, sort of a blending of the two in Agrilat).

Probably wouldn't be easy to program (since the droid really doesn't know or care what you do as long as you get to the waypoints), but perhaps a future wishlist item?

That's a shame that it can't figure out what you're using to get around . . . essentially, no matter what only swoops will win then. It would be nice if it registered what you were on when you conversed with the droid. Oh yeah, we can't converse while on a pet or vehicle. /doh
Well, it sounded like a good idea . . . .

The droid announces your time in spatial when you finish, so everyone can hear. You can still have player-sanctioned mount races with official results. You just won't be able to get the Daily Record riding something slower than a swoop (unless you're one of the first people to hit the track after a server reset).

Don't all swoops go the same speed?
so won't all times be a product of your ping and connection speed and not your piloting?

Network and client performance do factor in (especially on the Keren track, where there arelots of sharp turns onto bridges). The checkpoints are far enough apart, though, that it isn't always best (or even possible) to go in a straight line.
On the Agrilat track, for example, there are all kinds of crystal formations that you can't drive through. So it's also largely a matter of picking good places to attack inclines and picking good routes for obstacle avoidance.

We had a long distance mount race from my old town of Tombra, Naboo, to Keren, to Deeja, and back to Tombra; about 10k. It was long enough where skill and timing really came into play. The kaadu still whomped the savage humbaba's tail, but I really don't think the savage rider used the best tactics, either. The route took people over lakes (wade, or swim?), through the Mauler camp, up and down hills, and through some pretty dangerous territory; the leader and heavy favorite got eaten by a pack of tusk cats.
