Sorry forgot to complete my post. Basically I know rifle is the best ranged out of the marksman skills at master. But what about just for novice? Pistol, carbine or rifle still?

You can do Master CH/Master BE and still have enough for Pistols 0030 if I recall correctly. That line is worth taking for the defense modifiers.

currently I am a novice CH on the slow grind upwards, but when i first started playing the game I started with all of the basic profs. My thinking behind this was for 2 reasons. 1)pretty much anything I do will give me XP. 2) being everything will give me the chance to try everything and then make an informed decision as to what i would like to be.
currently my leveling is as follows
4/1/1/3 marksman. ( I am just a couple of hundred XP short of rifleman novice )
3/1/0/0 brawler (just a couple of hundred XP short of brawler 4/2/1/3)
1/0/0/0 medic
4/3/4/3 scout
4/2/1/3 artisan (couple of hundred XP short of armorsmith)
I have also maxed out on my apprentice XP so am ready to master any profession that I can fill up, Currently I am thinking of going for master scout, in order to progress to ranger. now I fully understand that i will have to drop most of my skills, but what i was wondering was, if I go for ranger, once I have learnt novice will I be able to drop my scout skills and still use the skills I learned as a scout?
also which combat skill would you recomend I keep or go for? I was quite interested in going for TKAbut have spent more time blasting things with my rifle than i have smacking things silly so have progressed further in ranged than close combat.
A skilled player on my server suggested that go for rifleman with fencer 0/3/3/0 which will provide my defence.
any ideas or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

once you get ranger you CANT drop master scout. Has for rifle, its great...if you master it.
tkm is great to, takes awhile to get to tkn but once you do its easy.

For ranged Novice pistoleer is the way to go. The guns are faster and because you don't have much speed + at novice they are simply much faster for you to use. You also get healthshot 2 which is the second best pistoleer attack, a health targeted damage + bleed attack.
If you went Meele I'd suggest TKA for the great defenses, even at novice or Swordsman for the amazing damage output to skills spent ratio.

If you have the skill points to at least go 0/0/0/4 in a ranged profession, go Rifleman. Firing a T-21 at the 1 second speed cap will out damage any other ranged profession out there. (That's why there are so many of them these days.)
I will give you a word of warning though, once the devs pull their heads out of the Jedi's backsides and out of space, we'll see the RM getting balanced and you might have to re-evaluate. For just this reason, I'd recommend you going with Pistoleer. It seems to be the ranged profession closest to what could be considered "balanced" and I don't expect it to change much.
If you feel like gambling on the upcoming revamp, you can try Carbineer. Yeah, it's gimped now, but it has the most potential in the revamp because of that.

The difference between 4/4/4/4 rifleman and master rifleman is great. The difference between 0/0/0/4 and master huge. At that level you'll be able to fire a speed sliced T21 at 1 shot/sec, but can't hit the broad side of a barn. Without the accuracy modifiers from the the 1st skilltree of rifleman you need to work with your pet to keep your target at ideal range. Once the target closes to melee range you will miss 9 out of 10 shots. Citros Snow Cake and Scoped Rifles can remedy the low accuracya little but personally I prefer not to base my templatearound foodbuffsand the special services of the always busy Weaponsmith in mind.
