Hello fellow Creature Handlers.

My name is Malkey, a wookie from Kettemoor. I will admit at this point in the message, that I am not quite a creature handler, yet. I am an aspiring creature handler.

I have attempted to read as much as I can, and I'm still confused by some myths around the Creature Handler elite Profession, and I thought I'd ask the kind folks here for some opinions and/or advice.

As a wookie CH wanna-be, I'm considering going Master CH, Master Rifleman, Rifles/Ranged IV, Survival IV and Trap IV. (Possibly Master Scout).

After reading V's CH guide and talking to CH in-game, I have some specific questions.

1. Is the template I outlined above a well-rounded template for a CH? Bear in mind, I usually run around with a buddy of mine who is going for Combat Medic/Doctor.

2. I hear that Pets can not tank well, and that all aggro is transferred to the tamer. Therefore if I were to use my pet with my rifle as I intend, that will not work because the monster will always aggro to me regardless. Is this true? How does the aggro code work for pets?

3. How does a template like this work in a PVP scenario with Master Rifleman?

I apologize in advance if these are repeat questions, but I was unable to find answers to these questions.

Thanks,

Malkey

2. They can tank pretty well, at least my 2 CL 25 GSPs can. You get aggro only if your pet gets low on health and decides to run or if other creatures of the pack notice you and join the fight. It is rarely though.

Yesterday i used my CL 4 quenker baby to tank dune banthas. He did quite well with me headshotting the banthas

If your pet can handle a whole pack, you might send him right after the lair so it gets aggro from all mobs and then switch him to your target and put them down one by one. Since you will have a doc/cm with you, he can focus on permaheal your pet. Think he will burn through a lot of stims doing this

Have a few pet stim Bs or better handy, just in case and get some kinetic armor for the rare aggro on you.

Oh forgot one, it is possible to get aggro because of your pet attacking, but i havent encountered this very often. Another reason to get a good armor and maybe some buffs

With your rifle's range try to stay at max/ideal range, getting aggro then is most unlikely unless you get triggerhappy and hit the mob before your pet does.

If you have a friend that can heal and you get some pet stims you should not have any problem at all getting your pet to stand up to many different things in game. However there are things that they do take a lot of damage from so you need to test it out and try and figure out what damage type your opponent do and get a pet that has got good resists as well. Try to use many different pets for different combats.

I have no problem at all going up against some hard situations where I get aggroed by all from a nest. What I do is get the pet to attack the one angry with me and I peace it. Run up to my pet and allow him to get the attention. When I am out of range I start attacking again. Repeat this for several aggroed on you.

Your template sounds good. CH + Rifleman is a good combo.

Pets generaly hold agro well. Avoid ones with ranged attacks though, they hold agro less well than ones in meele range. The thing to watch out for is that sometimes social creatures will attack you when you send your pets after their friend. If you just start combat far enough away this won't happen.

also remeber to use your mask scent and either kneel or prone when you attack.

the combo of the 2 delays the creatures your attacking fom spotting you to soon and you can generally take out at least one before any of the other detect you and decide to come after you, ofcourse this does'nt work if you go straight for the lair.

Thank you all for your replies! And feedback on the spec goals.

I'm happy to hear about the pet aggro situation, and I'll try and continue with it. My friend and I duo 99% of the time we are online, if not then he is crafting meds and healing people in the hospitals. So I imagine he'll be thrilled when he finds out he'll have to heal a pet non-stop, probably means more medic experience for him.

Can someone confirm that you do indeed get medical experience for healing pets?

And also, I'd like to ask for feedback on that spec for possible PVP. Viable?

Last question, did I read that you can give pets armor? I may be way off base here, but I wasn't sure if I read that or not.
