Rassenfrassen sonofabitch boards keep posting blank messages, /sigh retypeing in word then I will cut and paste, but this is what I sent in a pm to tiggs

Message Edited by taloncard on 09-11-2004 12:29 PM

Tiggs

Congratulations on your new position.
I would like to invite you to the CH boards.
I am sure that TH and other have told you not to post in our particular professional board for fear of getting flamed more than California during wildfire season. While it is true we have had particular problems with certain devs insulting us or showing a total lack of knowledge of our profession in explaining bugs to us, I believe most would be willing to start fresh with you.
The greater percentage of us just want some acknowledgement of our bugs and issues and some reassurance from a developer that they are being addressed. Our issues have remained essentially unchanged since December of 03 known to us as the great nerf. Because of this all that is really necessary to get an understanding of them is reading the first 5 or so pages of our profession. Vertexon Our correspendant is also well versed in all our issues and can easily bring you up to speed.

I believe the main issues of the whole SWG community is a lack of communication between the devs and the community. We for the most part see communication as a chain from us to the correspondents to you to the Developers. Unfortunately the communication should then flow back and we rarely see that happen.
We ask that you please reverse this communication trend and make it more open, we are not asking for immediate fixes just acknowledgements of issues and problems.

So please come on down, post a hello and a message that you are reviewing our boards and issues. Not all of us will bite, but then again our pets might

I had the same issue a couple of days ago. I'd spent a good hour writing and perfecting the pinnacle of posts and when I clicked "Submit Post" I got the "you aren't logged in" message and lost the post (going "back" didn't bring my text back).

I committed at that point to do every post in another editor so I would never lose it again. The next day of course I'd forgotten about it and lost another post because the forums suddenly were "undergoing maintenence". ARGH! You'd think I'd learn! /bonk self

I know basic HTML and web technology but I don't claim to know the underpinnings of how this forum system works. It would be nice though if it were better at error handling so posts aren't lost. It's one thing if your browser crashes or something like that, but it seems to be "cruel and unusual punishment" to allow you to type up a post then it gets eaten while you press "submit".

I didn't go MCH back in the day to be uber, leet, or any of that other garbage. The concept of the profession intrigued me. Controlling SW creatures in combat? Neat! At one point I was MCH/Ranger....haha, funny eh?

I still don't want to be the number 1 guy in PvP. I wouldn't even mind if pet vs player combat wasn't changed a whole lot.

I would like to see a few changes put in though.

Give us more variety. More pets, more tricks, more STUFF. The best PvE wild pets are a joke compared to BE ones, which is fine, but give some of those lower pets a use. Stable/Zoo ideas have been presented, as have Farm ideas for harvesting milk, meat, hide, bone. There are alot of ideas on these forums, just look at them. Maybe we shouldn't tank as well as a defense stacker, but we definately shouldn't send out hundred of thousands of credits worth of BE pets to see them go down before we even realize it.

It used to kill me to have that happen. You don't know how many of my posts from previous monthswere actually retyped second drafts.

I've trained myself to Select All and Copy my completed message out of the Lithium editor before hitting Submit. That way it's in the clipboard and I don't have to worry about reformatting it from a Word document when something goes horribly wrong.

Her message:

Hello,

Don't worry, I will be visiting all of the boards to gather your feedback and listen to what is going on

It isn't much but it is communication, which is exactly what we/I asked for.

She gets props just for replying in my book.

Hi Guys,

I think that one thing that we need to understand is that Devs are held on a fairly short leash, not just by SOE but I would not be surprised if LucasArts has their hand on the leash as well. So I am sure that any post has got to be pretty carefully worded in order to get it from their computer to this board. That's just my thought. I mean you wouldn't want some dev spilling the beans on how good or bad or easy or hard certain things in the game are.

But Tiggs has a thumbs up from me, she responded, that is far and away better than anything I have got from my PM's to TH. SO for me.

Tiggs 1

TH 0 like always.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

That's a great point. I've seen a few posts by Thunderheart and others that have given me the impression that not all the Devs have permission to post on the public forums. Be it for spin purposes or whatever, it seems clear to me that SOE/LucasArts wants to make sure the tone and message communicated is appropriate.

Unfortunately, I think this layer of bureaucracy is part of the communication problem we've been seeing. Thunderheart has ended up being a bottleneck.

Hopefully with Tiggs entering the scene and just general progress, we'll see some positive improvements with communication over time.
