Has anyone noticed that Creature Handler is only combat profession with no defense bonus.
AMaster Doctor has ranged and melee defense of +50, even a Master Dancer and Master Musican
have range and melee defense of +7.
In the combat profession diagram for SOE, we are close to the tankbranch and we have no defense bonus. With the hate system, we are really hurting if we try to attack and help our pets. I keep getting hammered
by the NPCs. Maybe it will make a difference when I get Master Pistoleer, I am currently 4444 Pistoleer.
Any else noticed this, or care about it?

Yep, it was noticed way back when and has been commented upon often. Unfortunately, it seems that's just the way it is, and that's just the way it's going to be.

There are two main methods of staying alive for us at the moment.
First, get some trapping in scout, level 3 will work just fine for the dart schematic. IT's called the Phecnactine Dart - it's really a helpful thing to have. What you do is toss it at a critter after your pets go after it, you will get a +snare effect that will slow them down a lot. Then just bash them, toss the next trap when needed.
The second, and easier for you anyways is to use stopping shot. It has a bit of a cooldown, but so far once I root a critter, I can kill them quite quickly, especially when I have my 3 pets on them while I'm shooting. If they break stopping shot, let them get close and use firearm hit, and then run away again, then hit stopping shot once the cooldown is complete.
You can use a combination of traps and stopping shot too!
I hope that helps.

It is highly doubtful that any CH that wants to hunt in the wilds has no other Combat skills.
Your offense and defense as a pure Creature Handler is your pets, I don't advise hunting this way any more than as a pure crafter.
I accept and have no problems with no combat bonuses as a MCH and have been so since shortly after launch.
I was a MCH/ M-Scout and MTK until the CU/ Nerf hit, I needed to adjust and gained other combat abilities to suit my playing style.
I chose MBH/ MCH/ Pistols to work with my solo style.

you might also pick up some ranged/melee defense clothes. I havent really tested it but they seem to be helping me a lot more than armor. I have two sets of "adventuring" clothes, my taming ones and my defense ones, even my taming ones have some defense in them. It seems to have helped and is a nice bonus on top of the defenses I get from CM.
