Hi all,

Just a quick question as in the subject. Do any of you creature handlers use Chef made pet foods? If so what grub do you favour and what sort of stats?

I'm guessing that Sweesonberry rolls are quite useful (+1200 40mins fil20), but beyond that I've not the foggiest

the problem with foods/buffs, is that they go away when the pet is stored, and the foods have a time limit as to how often they can be used, it is for that reason i never use them preferring stims instead...i suppose the food could be useful in a cave, or for tanking a krayt, just never really come across any

The only food for pets I have seen are Blap biscuits. I have heard of others, but not seen any. I would like to find some decent foods for my pets before I begin a major encounter, which usually happens when i am on Dath, but it is often hard to find them.

I know of a chef in my guild, what level does a person have to be to make the rolls and what is required?

I use Almond-Kwevvu Crisp Munchies (Taming Bonus) and Jawa Beer (Mask Scent Bonus) from time to time.

I picked up some of the special foods for pets once, but they wear off long before you can use them again, they each only affect one stat, and if you store your pets, they go away immediately (of course this can be done in order to give the pet more sooner than they would be allowed if you need to) and the method of giving them to your pet is not intuitive (you can't just feed the pet, you drag the foods on top of it). I do have a use for them sometimesif I am hunting with a baby animal... but for the most part, I don't bother with them.

I've used blap biscuits and swessonberry rolls. Pastebread buffs the action bar, and to be honest, this is a waste of time on any pet. When a pet goes down in PvE combat, it's nearly always due to H bar incapacitation.

As for food for me, I eat a lot of foods for different buffs. Almond crunchies for taming bonus, jawa beer for maskscent bonus, synthsteak for damage reduction, snowcake to improve my accuracy with the LLC (and with command weapons when I was still a commando), brandy and canapes, of course, for mind buffs. I've also been known to munch on wonwons and kiwik swirlys for H and A buffs, respectively.

I use no food for CH(i just go with my BE clothes which is usualy enough)

the food i use is the usual low value stuff i give my pets to cure their wounds (some chefs on Eclipse produce Bofa Treat or Travel Biscuits in factory crates and call themPet Munchies to make it easier for us)

as i use Ahrisa formyself (Rifler) this can be tricky -my pets take the first stuff they find in my inv when i feed them. so i always have to place my high quality food in my backpack

Okay, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question... but I've never used food for pets before.

Can pets eat -any- food? Or are there only certain types?

For instance, as a test, I tried to drag a synthasteak over one of my pets, and nothing happened. But when I clicked "Feed", it ate a synthasteak. Does it have the buff of a syntha now? Or did it just treat it as normal food?

And if there are only specific types of foods our pets can eat, is there a list for it? I checked a bunch of Chef vendors today looking for the foods listed here (blap biscuits and swessonberry rolls) but I couldn't find a single one of these items. That's why I ask if pets can only eat certain types. If -not-, I could just find another food that gives the same kinds of benefits I'd want my pet to have. But if there is only a select few, I'd like to know what to look for.

Again, sorry if this is just a dumb n00b question. Reading this thread has gotten me really interested in pet foods, because my pets go down fast whenever they tank. I'd like to give any other sort of edge to them that I can, so that I, a Rodian Pistoleer, don't have to buff up and start taking all the hits off my pets.

Pets CAN eat any food, to heal wounds. They'll eat spice to heal wounds. They'll eat your synthsteak, your bivoli, they'll eat anything they can get their grubby paws on. Pets will eat anything you can eat. They will not drink any drink you can drink, though.

This is why a lot of CHs use bofa treats to take care of the hungries after a battle. They're cheap, they don't do much to buff the player, and they will heal up all the pet's wounds with a single bite.

The serious chef created pet foods, on the other hand, the ones that buff pets, must be dragged and dropped onto the pet from your inventory.

Now, if they're laying around in your inventory, and you feed your pet, and the swessonberry rolls or the blap biscuits are the first thing in the inventory (left to right, top to bottom) the pet will eat that NOT for the buff, but for the wound healing. Which is why all foods except the food you want the pet to eat for wound healing need to be stored in a cargo pocket, or in your backpack, where Fluffy cannot get to them. Otherwise your very expensive bivoli will be snarfed down by a kusak...or your muon gold will be gobbled by a merek.

The pet buff foods only work as buffs with the drag and drop method, which should result in the message (Fluffy) yummy!, and the pet is buffed up according to the food's stats.

Good BE enhanced pet foods can add 1000 points to your pet's HAM for 30 minutes, but because there's not much of a market for it, you may need to special order it from your neighborhood chef. The chef can alter some of the stats, like the duration or how much the buff is on the pet's HAM. Filling can be altered, but it's useless with pet food because the pet can only be buffed once an hour, unless you store the pet, and the buff timer is reset.

Chefs have four stats that the experimentation process can alter: flavor (which determines the duration of the food's effects), quantity (which determines how many servings of a food), nutrition (which determines how big the buff is), and filling (which deterimines how much space is taken up in your stomach by the food).

Thank you, thank you, very informative

Now, is there a list anywhere of what foods pets can eat for buffs? All I know of is blap biscuits and swessonberry rolls. Are there others? And what exactly do the different foods do?

Well, though I don't do Rolls (and there is reason why chefs hate 'em - milk is required and it is not easy to be obtained in big stacks. Plus it takes heavy additives - and they are expensive too), I keep stocking all other Pet food in my vendors.

Must say - most bought are Blap Biscuits (I make with health 1000+). Second popular - Felbars (Mind buff of 1500+) for BE'd pets with low mind, but high Health. Pastebreads (Action buff of like 1200+) are less popular, though sometimes bought.

This food flyes from shelfes slower, that Pet Stims, but still well enough to be produced. So, come by or e-mail me

PS. If you still want rolls - e-mail me and we can discuss it.

Also Almonds with Taiming +10-15 and Jawa Beer with Mask Scent +15 goes with CH's well, but irregular...
