I heard something about this....which droids were they and do they still exist or did they modify the old ones?

I could be wrong but from what I understand if they contained pets before the patch they would hold them after but wouldnt be able to hold new pets. For instance if Joe CH had 2 pets in a droid before the nerf and left them in there after the nerf those pets would still be there. However if he decided to move on of his pets to his datapad he would not be able to put it back in the droid. Like I said I could be wrong.
