Thread: haha Teh newbie question for a NCH

This is pretty funny/sad that I don't knwo this but even though I've been a creature handler now for about 2-3 weeks I'mstill unaware of how to name your pet 
. So if any of you busy people don't mind helping could you let me know please, thanks

Right, what you do is pull out thepet. CLick the radial menu on the petwhere it says "Train" Select the a command to teach.For example ifyou want to teach stay, you would say "Dammit stay" (Dammit being the proposed name). Then go to another command, example- attack. "Dammit Attack". Then go to a third command "Dammit do whatever". You have to teach 3-4 commands to get the name to stick. You may have to doeach commandseveral times before the pet learns (if its a command taught for the first time, if the pet already knows the command it will get it right away), some pets are dumb as rocks.

It's 4 commands, so you need 1 more command beyond the novice set.
Most people train there creatures with 1 letter commands initially as it's faster. Then redo it with the commands you want once they've learnt it.

Except if you intend setting up macros for pet commands, you will need to use minimum 2 letter commands due to problems with the system not recognising single letter commands using /tellpet.

good point about /tellpet macros - I reckon it's in everyone's (not just CH's) interest if there was maybe a sticky about this.
My entire numberpad is devoted to CH commands using very simple macros, (CTRL-A) with those macros assigned to keys (CTRL-O - key bindings).
((the "echo" bit in my macros tell me the key has been pressed in the spatial chat panel but not spam the airwaves - and also helps when taming and teaching as you know which command you've just done))
This is my setup (from the top of my head)
Up cursor
/tellpet attack;
/echo attack (rinse and repeat for the other commands)
CTRL+ Up cursor
/tellpet attack2 (duplicated so I can send one pet at one target, and another at another target)
Down cursor
/tellpet group;
CTRL+Down cursor
/tell pet group2 (this gets around trying to get both pets in a pair grouped if you've already got one out)
Left cursor
/tellpet follow;
Right cursor
/tellpet store;
Numpad 0
/harvest meat;
/harvest hide;
/harvest bone;
/loot all
(I've stuck this one in as it's really useful - just stick your main choice of harvest at the top of the list, and if that animal doesn't give a particular resource it will move on to the next. Will also reap any bile / armour pads etc from the beast - you'll want to not use the loot bit if you are harvesting Sharnaffs

I don't know if this will help anyone, and it might seem like a real hassle, but if you can be bothered, it will make being a Creature Handler much more seamless and other people will think you have a psychic bond with your pets
I also find it a real help when taming new critters.
