How usefull is Ranger tracking to an MCH...? Are there many MCH's out there that use/swear by the ranger tracking skills? Is it worth the skill points?

I use it a lot when tracking a particular creature to tame, or when helping a BE friend find a creature to sample.

Just a matter of preference. If you don't tame wild creatures alot, or if you mostly do missions, I would think the skill wouldn't be helpful.

I used to have tracking skills. but felt the need for CL 80 was greater. So I dropped my ranger skills to master pistols. The Radar really mitigates the usefullness of tracking.

...Are you able to find the creatures you want easier/quicker, than if you just used your radar & overhead map...?

If I remember right, tracking is only good for a max of 300 - 500 meters. But the radar, can reach to 1024 meters.

The only thing I do not know about is the lag with creatures appearing. Often time on my bike creatures will appear behind me. When using tracking you are forced to stand still, which may be giving the server time to load and place any critters within your tracking range.

I use tracking occassionally, but it is not essential. Prior to the CU, I found the line even more useful for seeing creature stats.

Between those two things, the greater harvest, and the maskscent bonus from Master Scout, I felt the investment was worth it. (That worth is a little less at the moment, but I have nothing else I am interested in trading it for.)

Its pointless for me now, I got all my hard to gets, A ranger would have beennice but finding one pre-cu was like finding a needle in a.. wait too original, hmm, AH, like finding a ranger in galaxies.....anyway you get the point. I found my stalkers, boar, squill, Bull, EVERYTHING, with the exception of looking for a huf dun pre-cu before they went extinct, BY MYSELF, with NO HELP from a ranger. yes they help but we don't need them, if you are dedicated enough to not be lazy, but let me remind you, sometimes finding a ranger is harder then finding what you are actually looking for.

To be honest, I had that skill before the CU, and it did not help me find any of my pets. I am not knocking it, I am just saying it never helped me find any pets. For other things, it was useful, like finding NPC's like NightSisters. I would do a track and not see what I was looking for. Then a few seconds later, I would look around on my overhead map, and the adult or baby would be 35 - 50m ahead of me. This was for pets like Gurrecks and other pets that did not spawn from a lair. For those that came from a lair, I found it easier just to take missions for them.

I am only a master scout, but a personal favorite for RP is in setting up camps. I can only immagine what fun I would have as a master ranger with fort construction.

I don't know any rangers, so I'm not sure what a rangers camp looks like.

I do not find it vital, but I find it very useful. It allows you to go straightto the animal you are looking for, or else to move straight on, instead of having to go and check out all the dots on your radar.

This is useful not only for finding pets, but also for finding specific animals you may need to hunt for specific animal resources.

This said, if you already have most/all of your rare pets, and if you don't hunt for animal resources, then there probably isn't much point.
