Any ideas? What's the best strategy for a soon to be Rifle/Ranger/CHdabbler?

Unless you have a real personal need to use aggressive type pets (e.g. narglatch) then 0-3-0-0 is, imo, the most sensible choice. You don't have the points to start worrying about about what skills you can train personally, so you already need a higher level CH to do a lot of command training for you. Given that, go up training and make the most of the pet storage modifiers that grants.

Alright, so here i go bumping my own thread.....and adding in yet another question since the FAQ doesn't address the recent changes to the CH trees (patch 4/5 i think), and all my normal referenced web sites don't have an updated on either..
Which tree raises Creature Level control-ability? (As in being able to call higher level creatures......) I understand it used to be the first two trees, hence the 4-4-0-0 dabblers of yore, and i THINK it's been changed, but nobody seems to document it... believe it's been spread over all the trees, so 'dabblers' tend to be fewer and farther between
Any and All help is still greatly appreciated!
Thx yet again!

Yes it is spread out over all the skill boxes. You can see exactly what you gain by looking at the tree in game on the skill sheet.
Your max level of pets skill mod is the one that covers what CL you can control (if you want agro critters you will also need taming vicious modifier.
So with only up to box 3 in any one branch you will be able to control a CL 19 pet.

Novice Ch can call lv12.
Then +2 for each box in the first two levels above novice........ 2 2 2 2 for Lv. 28 then +3 for the third level... 3 3 3 3 for a Lv. 40 Then +5 for lv 4 boxes and +10 for master.
Get yourself some BE clothes makes all the difference. IMHO.

Its actually fully detailed in the skill trees in game, all you have to do is hit ctrl-s and examine the CH tree in detail, look for the'Max level of pets' modifier. It even has a tooltip explaining what the modifier means.

0/3/0/0, if only for the additional stored pets.
Admittedly, you won't have much power in an individual critter (CL 19 or so, IIRC...enough for a dewback) but you'll be able to have a wide variety to chose from, albeit all non-aggro.
I would have said 0/0/0/3 if the devs hadn't nerfed XP for the second pet out.
