Thread: Bah!!! My Wasteland Cu Pa wont use its ranged attack!

every time i try to use this cu pa, it always rushes in to attack and gets killed (only %5 kinetic resistance) is there a special trick to get it to do its ranged attack? does it have to be a certain distance from the target?
Also ive found some very odd things with CH. I get the most xp when i use my lvl 18 hermit spider (BE'd) more than any other creature i have.
I performed a test against Bull Rancors with a few of my pets and these were the results:
Hermit Spider (level 18, BE'd): 1.1k Xp
Kliknik (level 12 currently, level 18 when fully grown, also BE'd): 520xp
Razor Cat( level 19, BE'd): 8-- something, i cant remember the exact xp for this one
So what gives? shouldnt the kliknik get the most xp???

Have you tried telling it to stay before you switch it ranged mode?
Also there are some sweet spots with pets. Certain levels will get you certain XP, even though it is a higher level

how do i get it to go into "ranged mode?" is its ranged attack a special attack?

Get it trained by a MCH, if you already aren't one.
Ranged attack means it will attack froma distance. Cupa's have ranged attacks because they can spit poison. The same with diseased vrelts. They shoot poison, so they have ranged attacks. Just say whatever the word is for it to be in ranged mode. It will attack froma distance, which can allow you to get up close and kill the creature. i.e. I am going for Commando. To get to master Marksman and MCH at the sam etime, I will have one of my pets attack up close and shoot from a distance. When i go to get Unarmed 4 by then i should be an MCH. Therefore any pets that have ranged attacks I will tell them to be in ranged mode and attack up close. Sort of a like a trade off between Safety for your pet.
They can do any normal attack or special attack froma distance. I once had a gurrcat witha ranged attack. It could do knockdown from a distance.(sadly it was brutally murdered by my brother in a duel) That is why you couldn't use ranged attacks. You need to be master to train your pet in it.

maybe a superfluous question...... did ya toggle ranged mode on ( give the pet the ranged command you tought ) ? you only need to do this once after you pull a pet out ...
