Thread: A Solution to the BE Problem?

We’re at a kind of struggling point. We want wild pets to be worth taming, but at the other hand, we don’t want to drive BE’s out of the pet business, and we’d like BE pets to have a certain edge over wild.

A suggestion was offered that may be some viable wild pets have specials that BE pets can’t, such as the mantigrue screecher’s plague strike. Okay, yes, good, I like that. I can see myself with, say, a cl50 BE pet as my main, with a cl20 wild pet with otherwise horrid stats, but really nice specials, hovering back behind the actual battle…only to zoom in, land in a couple of quick specials, and then flit back out to a safe zone. That employs good strategy, and I like strategy, especially with our profession. =D

But I have an idea, concerning BE pets versus wild. And I’m talking at the master or near-master levels. Cap BE pets at cl50. Make all wild pets over cl50 worth getting, besides rarity. That way, I can have my tag-team duos or triplets as BE’s, but a tank, my big guy, be as nature intended. And there are situations were duos/triplets are better than singles, and situations where a good single is better than multiples. I don’t see very many BE’s getting shorted, as most of them can make extremely good pets at under cl50, but I want some crème de la crème as my big guys, and also be wild...something I tamed on my own, not something I bought. I want some of the old guys put at their former glory, and then I want a chance at possibly taming one.

What do you all think?

That would mean that BE's would have a very hard time making cl 50 pets. Very easy to overshoot there (lots of the cool donors are cl 50+), so business would be seriously hurt for those primarily making pets. The pet market is almost non-existant as it is already.

Wild pets are indeed worth taming. Obvious are those with specials that do not come on BE pets. Then add those low level pets than compliment your main tank pet. Say you have a cl 55 Mantigrue Screecher, team it up with a cl 15 Spineflap Handmaiden that can do ranged intimidate attack. If you have a cl 52 BE main tank, try a cl 18 Spineflap Guard that does ranged stun/blind. With use of a macro you can make the spineflap keep doing ranged attack with a special.

I think that BE vs CH is pretty well balanced, BE's can make some pets better in some areas than wild ones, but *never better in all areas*. They lack one or more of attack speed, damage, HAM, specials, to Hit, or a cool skin. Do keep in mind that a Master BE spends 29 more skill points than a Master CH, and in order to make very high level pets a Master BE also has to get Master Scout in order to get Mutant Rancor DNA (unless he likes to go nuts trying to get even close to them. They are horrible to sample on top of that). So a Master BE typically spends 29+34=63 more skill points than a Master CH - it *is* that much harder to get close to a cl 75 monster than say a cl 55 if you are trying to fool a Bull Rancor to get at a baby in the herd.

The pets are all out there, you just have to look a little. Wild pets as well as constructed pets.

Sigh, no edit button...

Anyway, the Exploration line (Mask Scent) in Scout is a must for a BE to sample good level DNA even though it is not a requirement to learn Novice BE. So basically a BE needs to spend the 14 points there. (And Master Scout to have just a decent chance of getting cl 75 Mutant Rancor DNA.)

As an ancient CH who's recently come back to the game, I'm shocked they did take the smart solution to this problem. BE's should have been able to make pet CL50 and down on their own, with stats equal or even better than all but the rarest wild tames, BUT for the CL50 and above ones the system should have been different. BEs should have had to cooperate with CHs to actually engineer existing babies to higher levels/skills. A CH would bring a freshly tamed baby to a BE, the BE would then add compounds to the baby that would buff its CL, or add a specials, or any of the things they can currently put in a clone. Then BOTH professions have an active role in the pet's creation.

It was a system that was tossed around alot on the boards and it's sad that they instead chose to make BEs our masters

The modified baby idea has been floated in the BE forum. It was hammered into eopie goo of course.

From a BE that has been making animals for a very long time capping BE animals at CL50 really doesn't hurt the BE business all that much. Above and beyond the vast majority of animals I sell are CL10. Also, I can make a CL50 animal that can tank most CL70 wild animals.

Unfortunately, because bio-engineers like myself are adept at making good quality animals, creature handlers are the ones that end up being hurt. The bio-engineered CL70 is superior to a CL70 wild animal. You end up with less of a tank than you have available to you now. For creature handlers to gain with the BE cap wild animals above CL50 would have to be revamped. Of course that's not going to happen because the devs can't see beyond JTL.

I have a CH and a BE, and am planning a conversion to make a CH/BE out of my BE

Personally I like things the way they are. I found playing my CH a pain in the bum without BE pets, at any level, but liked the fun part of going out looking for more uncommon pets or uncommon specials.

I'm going to convert my BE/BH to CH/BE (Yes, the CH will be the important part) because I make sokme very nice pets and can't use them with him. *grins*

I play for fun. I know CH is seriously nerfed, but a CH/BE/pistol0030 isn't as nerfed as plain CH because I can roll a new pet for whatever I need. Yes, I have to wait a week or so for it to grow, but I can tailor it to work with whatever strategy I need and put it in a small sized skin so I can still see what's going on.

Far too many people ask me for Kimos and Rancor for their CH/Rifleman when they'd be a LOT better off with something like a CL50 Jax - you can still see what you're shooting at. Oops digressed again.

My thoughts - leave the BE pet levels how they are and allow CHs to tame higher level creatures again.

The point I was trying to make is that I wanted "Master" creatures that weren't BE made - you had to tame them. Over cl50. Yes, they do have that, but only a few are actually worth the taming effort. I don't want to hamper into BE business, no, but the majority of BEs I know, past and present, hardly made any pets over cl50 anyhow, except for when CH's specifically requested something. God knows even if they did redo some of the higher-end pets, a cl50 BE pet would still probably be better. I would just like to have a cl60 wild pet that could even begin to compete, non-specials-wise, with some of the BE pets out there. I mean, when I have a cl45 pet that has ar1/60kin/35en/89blast-heat-cold, strong poison/dizzy strike...I mean, that's honestly better than the fabled arachne widow and she's cl58. I could get an angler with the same skin as hers, as well. There's honestly no point to get her when I have BE pets like this, rather than the rarity factor.

Do you catch my meaning? I want to have the pets out there be worth taming, and as much as I love BE's, I don't want them to have a chance to improve upon it with another pet. And not just with specials.

I mean, it'sa bit hard for me, sometimes. I've been a CH for a long time - sincefirst week ofJuly '03 - and it's just hard for me to be so dependent on BE's for the good pets. At first I was excited that I could get something better, now I'm a bit sad, becauseI enjoyed taming and then using my new pet, and have my pet be effective in battle. I want that back, andI don't want for it to be able to be produced by a BE with the correct samples and the correct recipes. Proud of the profession and all that, I suppose. =P

Wild animals should be better than they are. I doubt anyone would disagree with that. There was no real reason to nerf the whiz out of animals in the first place. Plus the fact I would be able to sample better animals.

SOE was too busy hammering out the highly anticipated character transfer so they can charge you $30 to switch from one server to another with no weapons, armor, or inventory of any kind. Oh, and you have no money either. That was time well spent I must say. I'd have to ask why wouldn't you just create a new player and start on the server of your choice. At least you get a cdef weapon and a melon.

Let's not forget JTL. You get to go out and buy an expansion pack so you can play X-wing and Tie-fighter online. Needless to say, SOE is concentrating of revenue. With lagging subscriptions they aren't going to spend time working on a profession they pretty much obliterated 6 months ago. There's no money in it.
