best combat pet is a matter of taste mostly, because the best combat pet is 'a high-level BE pet', and they can make a lot of different types of animals, all to the same level. It doesn't matter if you want a gurreck, a kimo or a slice hound, they can make a level 69 12K HAM 60% light kinetic armour version of each, just depends on what you like to see on your screen. (I think they changed it so you can't have a level 69 rabbit anymore, but most of em can).
Best combat pet from the wild is probably a Mantigrue Screecher (but they're insanely rare), the only tamable pet with Heavy armour rating, works wonders in PvE.
best common animal is stuff like a wild Gurreck, a Rancor, possibly a combination of several huurtons, check out the various databases for stuff like that, sort em on CL 50+ and check out the tamables.

Agree on the screechers...great pet, I have three. There is no one perfect pet that can handle every situation, BUT I do believe that certain pets, in certain situations, can do quite well. My Merek Toxic Battlelord was great in the Geo Cave and my Gaping Spider RECLUSE with Area Spray and Stong Poison has done well. I've seen two Ravishing Boar pets (from Endor) do well when operating together.
I have a variety of pets. After encountering a enemy I examine their weaknesses and bring out the most effective pet. Next enemy might require another type of pet. But hey, we get twenty-two pets. Two level 35's and a high level bot (6000 HAM) packs a pretty good pet. I have had several PvPers refuse to fight when the screecher comes out.
All I know is my pets and I soloed Black Suns right and left and BH's were crying that the Black Suns were too difficult. My recommendation to all new CH's is get a variety of pets. Use the one that works best against that particular MOB

just a question from a non CH...what are the resists on a screecher, besides it having heavy armor? That sounds like it could be the ultimate pet if it had decent resists as well.

Screatchers do not have heavy armor, they have light armor. Theri resists are all pretty average, 35% kinetic I think, don't recall the others. Its definately not the best combat pet, although in PVP its disease is a real pain in the butinsky for folks without a good doctor. I've got one but I don't realy use it all that much due to its rarity.
Your pest PVE pet will be a BE pet with light armor and 60% kinetic with intimidate and blinding strike. At least thats my opinion.

You probably saw a BEd albino graul, but regular grauls aren't albino. Kimos can only be BEd and rancors can be tamed, although there are BEd versions of them. However, only the Ravenous Tortons are tameable, the other types don't have babies.

So do they or do they not have a heavy armor rating...someone above posted they do NOT, they are a light rating...I'm just confused...which is it?

There are no creatures tamable in the wild or BE-made with medium or heavy armor. Best pets can have is Light Armor with high resists.
