Hey folks,
I have been taming every kind of mount there is out there, and last week...caught a giant carrion spat. These things are huge and the sounds are great...so I stored it away for growth. Well, at level 16...I pulled it out and trained it to be a mount. The CL onthe giant carrion spat is 18...with them being able to be trained as a mount at level 1(immediately after capture). When I logged in today, I got a message stating that if I did not restrict it's growth, it wouldn't be mountable again. Has anyone else run into this with giant carrion spats? Seems pretty silly when there isn't one single other mount that you would have to do this with. I did a CSR ticket, and was told that the giant spat would grow too large to be able to have a saddle on it...coding-wise. This just doesn't seem right, considering I have a savage humbaba...that stands close to 40 feet in the air. Anyone know the maximum level a giant spat can be and still stay a mount? To our corrospondant...is there any kind of a change in the works to repair this one confusing rule to mounts? I just got back from taming three more giant spats, and two normal ones...so I am going to experiment a bit. I looked on SWGCreatures.com and there is nothing there about growing too big for mounts. Kind of at a loss here. Another CH told me that as soon as you train it as a mount...you stop the growth right there. This seems odd to me considering I can control two pets at a time, up to a maximum of CL 42. Any help with mount training, or even little tidbits of information like this would be most appreciate. Suffice to say, I was rather disappointed that this one mount is level restricted.

My understanding is that you get that one-time box when it gets a certain size, and you have to choose then if you want it to stop growing in size and be a mount or to get to its full size and not be mountable. All it is is a size thing i believe, i dont think it effects the CL (i may be wrong). GCS are the only mounts with this problem i think.

To my knowledge, the giant carrion spat is the only creature affected by the "stunt growth" requirement for large mounts. I'm not sure why there's a distinction between this and the savage humbaba (possibly different saddle art?), nor am I aware of any Dev plans to change it. Giant carrion spats have been affected by this since mounts were first introduced.

I guess I am afraid if I haven't logged in for a few days...I am screwed and they will be CL 18 and not mountable. Doesn't training as a mount stunt growth from there on by the way? I am getting mixed ideas in game. By the way...thanks for the response you guys!

You can train giant carrion spats as mounts immediately, and doing so won't stop their growth. Eventually, though, that particular type of creature will reach a point at which you must explicitly choose whether to stunt it. If you choose not to do so, it will lose the saddle and mount functionality forever.
I don't think keeping it in the datapad too long will be a problem, though. It should just give you the prompt the next time you call it.

Yes, exactly.
I had a giant carrion spat tamed before the mount publish, and in "deep storage" on a droid. When I transfered it from the droid to the datapad the night of the mount publish, it was full grown. When I called it, I was given the "stunt growth" option. It reverted in size slightly to accomodate the saddle art, and remained at that size indefinitely.

yep i mounted mine at 8 and it asked me if i wanted to stop its growth ..now it stays at CL 12
I think you went past the limit thats why it carried on growing...asuming 12 is the limit.
