Thread: Tired of being weak

I devoted a lot of exp to CH with the exspectations of having pets protect me.Was Master Rifleman also. What I found was I would send pets in on a group hoping they would tank while I sniped them off.If I am grouped with my pets most of the mob skipped attacking pets and came straight for me which compromissed my range bonus and left me vulnerable to melee attacks;since rifleman relies so much on mind I don't wear much armor so I would get whacked.Only thing that pets really helped on was while i was incapped they would distract the enemy from DB me and keep from sending me to the cloner. So I dropped some of rifleman and picked up on some swordsman to allow me to have some melee to help with the bum rush. This works out ok but is a pain in the a$$ swapping weapons to fight one guy while your pets are getting beat on 64 meters away with no cover fire.It is also very frustrating to have your pets run off after one guy while you have 5 attacking you ? I wish they would fix this where your loyal pet would not leave your side and stay within 64 meters of your location during combat; If I take my pets into combat against a tough mob they are either ineffective;or only good for 1 encounter without whole lot of healing.or run off;or dead.If things don't get better soon my money will no longer be devoted towards this gameing expierence; It is no fun being weak. And I just want to have fun again.

What exactly are you trying to take out?

How high are you in CH?

As a MCH working my way up Rifleman, I could go to dant and walk from the Mining Outpost to my city unbuffed and unarmored. I could go to Dath and take out Bull Ranc lairs as well, unbuffed, unarmored, all i needed was a little food to help speed things up a bit.

There are a variety of ways to go about it using pets, just experiment a bit.

Sounds as if you are sending pets while you are standing too close to your targets. quite a while ago they changed the system to raise the percentage of the mobs to go after the ch instead of the pets, it actually effects all groups. Ever have your friend shoot at something and it attacked you instead of him lol.

The work around for this is standing farther back over 60m sending in pets and "wait" untill all mobs are engaged with pets. Then move in and shoot. this will work 90% of the time. Sometimes with mokks and stuff like that some of them will go after you using this method, even though they are engaged with your pets, your pets havent actually hit them yet so when you do it they change targets. having your pets on guard helps and I find using one ranged pet help since he can hit from a distance and re-engage agro.

Nothing is fool proof so have a macro forquick attack commands to have pets changetarget to whatever is coming at you, if more than one is charging you fall back and try to target the rest heading your way usually if your fast enough you can survive.

Some people use macro's to spam state attacks to hold agro. this may help you also. The key point here is timing a CH must wait untill its right to fire or charge in.

Hope this helps,

Actually I have researched the whole it attacks and aggros you instead thing. If it is a creature, and your maskscent is on, and your from a distance, it will continue to aggro your pet. also, If you are out of range from the mob when it engages your pet, then you go in to attack it, you'll be fine.

I was a master swordsman and I pretty much did the same thing, unbuffed and wearing bio clothes. would send pets in from a distance of 60m, (theyre right use m-scent) and when my pets were half way i would start charging in, and stand about 12-13m behind pets and use specials, you have a larger reach with specials. sure ya take a few hits here and there but I loved sowrdsman and never had much of a problem.

i am MCH/MRM and can take on anything. I control agro at will until my pets are incapped. Once a target starts toward you, you must use pet specials to take agro back onto the pets, and to control agro.

In my mind, mch/mrm is THE most powerful profession inthe game for PVE.

I have shocked my melee friends with my tanking ability in the past against things like gorax/krayt dragon etc etc. The only thing I have problems with is high level nightsisters as I dont have an uber 100%resist to stun/blast pet.

see my sig on how to use macros to control agro.

(that said, i have no idea where we will be after the curb..)

Not sure about the swordsman part, but here is how I found rifle works with CH:

-conceal shoot. it might take a while, but it will get the job done. keep pets on guard mode.

-send in your strongest pet to attack the strongest foe and Headshot3 as soon as you see your foe is taking damage. With the right damage type rifle, should not take long, 6-7 hits.

-get max distance, do a mind bleed. Move out to about 80m. It will draw a single creature out at a time. send in a pet to tank. spam headshot3.

Mask Scent should ALWAYS be up.

IF you find you are being aggroed, run towards a group of 'yellow' creatures. If your opponent has an area of effect attack, the yellows will attack it for you, and you move back some. Gun on the run if you have to.

I have found thatif you have 5000 faction points for NS, they will leave you alone. I have stood side by side with them and nothing. The plus side to this is: No more blowed up speeders and they have helped me take out creatures before.

it also boils down to how you go about takin stuff out as well. for a mission lair, and a few wild lairs. there will be 3 initial guards, 3 guards at first hit, and 3 guards at the halfway point. Are you just blasting away at the lair? That is a big no-no. I would take out the guards in the way I outlined at the top. Make sure my mask scent was good, get 64m out, hit the lair once, peace. I could then have time to take out the next set of guards one at a time before the others spawned. When it gets to near the halfway point, I will stop a bit and wait for some of the shots to catch up. Often, it will hit the halfway point, and they will not aggro on you.

Yes, straffshot2 is nice, does a ton of damage, but one thing to keep in mind is, a wild lair, they will spawn and swarm you unless you can get them will it.
