Hi all,
Im kinda new to CH (just picked up NCH) but found the progression to be very slow.
I cant quite remember the xp required to gain another skill box, the most xp ive achived in one kill is around 900.
The thing that confuses me is that I have a level 12 pet, which is newly tamed and still a baby. Yet I have a level 8 kadoo from a MCH friend (as a mount) that seems to get much more xp then the level 12 pet??
The only difference I can see is that the kadoo can be grouped, where as the level 12 pet cannot.
Im just a little confused about how CH xp is allocated now in the new system..

your best bet to master ch is to get in a hunting group. I mastered it in about 5 days that way and I'm not a power player.

I have soloed my way to 0111 and while the first box was the most difficult it gets progressively easier as you gain more commands to teach your pet.
I'm CL22 at the moment and what I do is run around Corellia taming every non-aggressive baby I find that is CL18 or lower. If I stumble across a wild mottled/grand wrix lair I'll pull out my CL10 Cu Pa that has kd, blind, stun and intimidate, group with it then proceed to take out all the wrixs. If I take out all four spawn rotations I'll send my pet in to finish off the lair. I've gotten anywhere from 1 CH XP (bug) to 12000 CH XP (probably another bug) for a lair. I usually get 3k to 5k CH XP per lair. I also have gotten anywhere from 1 weapon XP to 30000 weapon XP from the same lairs that I think are bugged values since I normally get about 10 to 12k weapon XP. All in all that's not too shabby since it not only builds up my CH XP but my weapon XP as well pretty significantly and it's fairly easy if you pull correctly.

The amount of xp you get for a kill depends on the xp reward of the mob killed, split by the amount of damage done with each weapon you use. Since your pets are part of your weaponry, killing a mob with both the pet and (say) a pistol splits the xp reward between CH xp and pistol xp depending on the fraction of the total damage done by each type.
Say some mob has 1000 Health and gives 300 xp. You do 900 damage with a pistol and 100 damage with your pet. You'll get 300 *900 / 1000= 270 pistol xp (along with 27 combat xp) and 300 * 100 / 1000 = 30 CH xp. That may not be exactly how xp gain is calculated (healing and maybe tanking also affect the split), but I think it's close enough to get the idea of it across.
If you group with your pet, it has your CL (assuming you're higher), so it doesn't take the accuracy / damage reduction for attacking a mob of higher CL. So if you're of a higher CL than your pet, the pet will do more damage grouped than it will ungrouped. More damage per hit = higher % of damage done = more CH xp.
Getting the /group command in Management 1 is probably the most useful first box to take as a novice CH.
Also, I found it more productive to go around the high-traffic newbie cities (coronet, theed, mos eisley, bestine, etc) and tame babies ratherthan taking low-CL creatures into combat against high CL missions. At least until you get Management 1 and you can group with them.

Right.. so I at the moment, im running equal level missions to myself (22), which is much higher than my CL max (12).
The only problem then becomes that it either takes ages for the pet to kill the target (and I get bored and kill it myself
) or the target ends up eating my pet for lunch
Is it ok to heal my pet in combat, and it sill get full xp?
So.. should I just grind through it untill I can get management 1 & the group command, and then use my pets in missions?
