Thread: A perspective from an SWG casual player....
I love the CH profession, not to be uber with only the best pets but rather just getting back to enjoying the game and not basically not cancelling my account. I just really shake my head when I see people on this board only concerned with, and here goes that wonderful word, GRINDING a profession, ouch! lol
If all you see in a game is 'grinding' than you're missing out on its content, IMHO.
I'm sure some of you can only be UBER and only have the best pets around, and yada yada yada, but for me I am enjoying the game now because of all the new CH content. It certainly has sparked new interest in the game for me right when I was just about to cancel my account. And sure I want an awesome pet too but I sure as heck don't consider this profession anything of a GRIND anymore.........but to each his own

The bottom line for me with regards to Pub21 is the fact that CH has basically become a new and exciting, IMHO, profession once again.
I have noticed this too. I actually look forward to playing my NCH on radiant.
Sure it has it's downsides but overall I like it! It's kinda sad to see some players that only concerned with "Gosh it's gonna take me x amount of days and z amount of xp to get make this uber pet and make me God, and all powerful, and I simply can't enjoy this game until I AM UBER CH MAN!"
I have read a LOT of posts on the subject of pub 21 and I NEVER saw any of the veteran CH complaining about not being UBER till they finish grinding. They all observed that when other professions (JEDI) had a significant rebuild and redirection those professions got some credit for the XP THEY ALREADY EARNED.

If the vets had been granted some bonus for the XP they earned for the past N months of play there would not have been as much an issue. Every MCH post I have read noted that this publish is the best thing that has happened to CH in a long time or maybe even ever. Most of them would have greatly enjoyed having this in when they started. It would not seem a "grind" then.
My NCH on radiant does not feel the grind other than the fact I already have an MCH on Kettemoor. But with the new system it seems more like a new profession to my NCH which is part of the point many have tried to make.

Anyone wanting to be UBER won't choose CH. And what is wrong with wanting to be the best you can be??

LOL. Love that movie, btw! One of the all time greats.
Okay, I'm going to comment on this, because quite frankly I'm very, very tired of people getting all uppity about how veteran CH's, or any CH's really, are complaining about the (re)grind of Creature Handler.
First of all, I took CH as a respec. I specifically took Creature Handler with the idea that it would be something fun to accentuate my Entertainer professions. I wanted some pets to perform with onstage.
Now, let me tell you this - in the past, when you were a MCH, you did NOT have to go out and slaughter things. You had NO requirement, none, nada, of going out and dealing with combat with your pets.
Let me describe for you what my thoroughly enjoyable pet experience was before Publish 21. I went out, walked around, found babies and tamed them. I then proceeded to anxiously watch my little pets grow a bit each day, until they were full size. Then I could use them to perform with. I liked it because once I tamed the baby, logically the baby GREW UP on it's own, under my care.
Now, here is what I have to do in order to have a pet that's not knee high to a gubbar. I go out and tame. Then I have to KILL, and KILL, and KILL, and KILL, and KILL. And then kill some more. Then slaughter some more. Then kill. Oh look, I've now got about a knee high cu pa. Then I kill some more, get a drink, kill, and then kill some more. After a bit more killing, I can finally put a saddle on the cu pa, and I'm satisfied that it's finally big enough for my preference.
I never, NEVER had to do a SINGLE bit of combat pre-Publish 21 in order to have anything but a teeny, weeny little tiny pet to perform with. Now I have to spend a stupid amount of time just to have something that isn't so small that people say, "Oh my god, is that a Brackaset?"
This is, yet again, the removal of non-combatant content from SWG, and it's a crying shame in my opinion. I wasn't interested in spending my time going out and slaughtering animals for hours and hours, just to have a pet that doesn't look like it's still in embryo form. I find it annoying and a waste of my time to even TAME a new pet, because what the hell time am I going to have to rollover the xp so many freakin' times until the pet finally is an acceptable size?
I have lost BIG TIME with Publish 21, my experience with Creature Handler has been lost. You may love and adore going out and killing lots of things in your time in-game, but I used to like doing things BESIDES grind and grind and grind and grind and grind and grind. To each their own, but in this case - my perspective of enjoyment from this profession has been thoroughly killed.
Not everyone takes Creature Handler to commit mass murder across the galaxy. Some people got it just to....have some pet companions in-game.
I liked it better when I didn't HAVE to go out and fight in order to have a pet that didn't look like it got caught in the beam of a shrinking ray.
I will be dropping Creature Handler as soon as I get some CL10's or under levelled up (which is a horribly long and dull repetitive process just to get something big enough to put a saddle on).
I'm sorry, but the Devs thoroughly screwed all non-combatant inclined players of this profession. I'm tired of having my enjoyment of the game systematically removed, I really am. I'm tired of being pushed into combat and slaughtering things for countless hours. And hell if I'm spending hours just to get some huurton or something big enough to not look like a tiny puppy. I'd rather spend my time doing things I like, and CH used to offer that - now it's just forced grinding...not just to get your pets to GROW UP, but also to just learn abilities from your pets.
A very big disappointment, not only for the loss of my enjoyment of CH, but to see posts like this who lambast those who dare to show that they are displeased with such a narrow-minded and combat-oriented overhaul to the Creature Handler profession.
The Devs killed Creature Handler as I knew it with Publish 21, and it's a $%*@ shame.

What's IMHO stand for anyway? Seems like something I should know by now, but the question never came up.
In my humble opinion.
For example:
The Devs killed Creature Handler for non-combatants with their combat-required grind they forced on Master Creature Handlers, IMHO.

Do we REALLY need another thread about this? Geez...LET IT GO. Damn, there's been enough written about this already without you starting another thread.
I am a hunter and killer so for me the publish is great fun. But I remember the days of watching my babies grow till they were ready to use very fondly.

This board encourages free speech, get over it.
Are you suggesting that my post was, somehow, inapropriate?
Boy never thought of that (he says to the entertainer)
Most games are based on "conflict". Its easier to "win" when it is. I guess when the devs gave babies the full abilities of the parents they didnt care about size. A 4" cupa does as much damage as a 6' cupa.
Allthough one thing I see with this system from a performers perspective is that you can "freeze" the size of a pet by just stopping him from fighting. You want a Brackaset the size of a Dalmation, then stop fighting with him.
It might be cool for an entertainer to pull a Rancor the size of a Bothan! (If they even start that size)
I wonder if there could be a workaround. Maybe make NPC CH trainers the ability to "image design" your pet a certain size level or something.
