I"m a Master Musician/Master Entertainer and i'm thinking of supplementing this with CH, this woudln't leave me enough skill points to have a combat prof though. Is CH worthless without a combat prof or can I get by in combat with just CH. I'm keeping in mind i may someday want to do the Jedi Trials and will need some kind of ability to kill for Jedi missions. Thoughts on this would be appreciated.

It is an indeedtricky question to answer. I won't comment on the Combat Upgrade until I hear more confirmations from the devs. Do you have enough skillpoints left for even novice marksman or novice brawler? Anything supplementary in terms of combat at this point in time is a necessity for CH's. Or if you're lucky enough (which I am unfortunately not) to have a friend who does have a combat profession who is willing to hunt with you, you have it made.

I agree, this is a tricky one to answer.
I'm a master CH and have just the pistol branch of Marksman. That allows me to get by pretty well, but I'd say that it would be very difficult to have no marksman (or brawler if you prefer) at all. Just today I had a pet that wouldn't follow me into a cave and another one poofed shortly after. If you don't have a backup way to handle such occurrences, you're usually looking at a trip to the cloning center. Also, be prepared to deal with people that don't recognize that your pets ARE your weapon.
If you aren't interested in going all the way to master CH you can still get high enough to get some decent tanking pets while leaving enough points available to get some effective brawler/marksman skills. You won't be able to mow through mobs at the rate that other elite combat professions can, and may not be able to solo everything, but you can PvE pretty effectively (as long as you use smart strategies). From what I've read, you can forget about PvP though.

What you may want to do is get one line in Marksman/Brawler to get your scout xp, then as you go up the CH tree, begin dropping your combat skills.

I would say get marksman rifles four. Here is why you get the laser rifle. Max damages atleast what I made on my server were 434 then with a slice things can get even better. This gun is also medium armor peirceing good for high level mobs. The additional bonus is that you get to stand far back from your tanking pet. Which will reduce the chance of aggros on you.
Doing battle with just ch. Will mean you will be limited in what you can do. After all its your pet on ten or twenty spawns out of one nest. If your pet goes down your in serious trouble.

What kind of combat are you thinking of attempting as a just-CH? This is an important question.
If you are simply looking for protection on the starter planets then CH is fine. Ditto if you are in a large group and are "assisting". But don't expect to be able to solo Rancors. Heck, you'd be hard pressed to solo any MOB from an adventure planet.
The real downside is that MOB's will sometimes attack you, the pet controller, instead of the pet. Without some form of combat skill, you will be toast against high level MOB's.
I know a Doctor/CH who groups quite successfully but says it takes way too long for his pets to kill a high level MOB.
You're going to want at least one full line in a starter combat profession "just in case".

I'm sure this can be done, but I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do it.
For a long time I was a master scout/master medic/MCH, with the full pistols line thrown in, and it worked pretty good for a lot of solo stuff. I'd take down sharnaff lairs, for example, but this was all pre nerf, when the GSPs had 60% kin resist, not 35%. I'd keep the pets healed up good with stim Cs and Ds.
In groups, I was there to provide meatshields and crowd control, and tossed in some heals on the side, and that seemed to work well with the other group members providing damage dealing.
Pets simply don't do the damage that even advanced novice combat types can do, but properly stimmed they'll hold in for just about anything...the catch is that it will take a lot of time, so it won't be very efficient for rapid accumulation of resources or credits from missions.

Cynekul, don't even think about trying the jedi trials without having mastered an elite fighting profession because you will have to confront with 50k ham mobs.
Actually CH is the most funny profession to play ..... but the most useless too: if you have little fighting skills you can't rely on your pets on difficult planets but if you have a solid fighting profession you will find that you can do better without pets.
Sad.

The short answer is no. At least not at this time. It would take you forever to level, MOB AI would put you in the cloning center often, and you would need the patience of a saint to take out a lair even a low level one. Pets can not attack lairs. If you tame/trained your way to master, you would not be able to do even the first Sith mission at the Village.
Why do you want CH? If you want a tank you would be better served going MTK and getting an Uber BE non-ch pet. If you are interested in the fun factor or coolness factor, BE can still provide a variety of cool looking non-ch pets. If you like the idea of roaming the wilds and taming rare/unusual creatures, you are going to need a good way to defend yourself and take out MOBs to get a baby and even high level pets are not very good at that.
