Thread: Is it just me or do the devs seem to spend too much time on minor CH stuff

While the latest fixes are nice what about the more important things:

  • The sound of silence

  • lack of storage

  • lack of a market

  • cowardly pets attributed to apathing problem (finding the best attack distance)

  • pet warping

  • Vit loss in PvP and faction - 3 patches later still broken

  • special attack commands - almost 1 year later still broken

  • and so on....

While this rare attention to CH is nice, it's like a having a broken engine in your car and the mechanic fixes that dash light that went out instead.

FYI things that were fixed:

  1. The actions associated with /hug, /pet etc... a nice RP thing and a part of the Coolness factor but far from a gamebreaking issue

  2. Being able to order your pet by name now: again a nice feature but far from really necessary

  3. issueing the command until your pet learns it instead of having to do the radial over and over again. Again really nice (Ok KICK ASS !!!) but a command line methood would be much better.

Please PLEASE Fix the broken creature sounds!!!!!!!!
Please look at our more important issues.

I am not trying to seem ungrateful, but as I said we have much more pressing matters that need attention, I would rather 1 of them get fixed than the 3 you did fix.

Hehe I agree, however if we sound too ungrateful at the little fixes then we've got a jawas chance in hell of getting any 'big' fixes/changes...*cough* Corrals! *cough*

Holy smack we dont have to keep spaming the redial when teaching our pets commands anymore. I hope that was part of the recient patch cause ive been having a hellofa time teaching commands lately. Last night it took me over 10 trys to teach a little nuna on naboo to "stay" was driving towards carpel tunnel syndrome...

Guys its not the real devs that put things like this in. Its little pretend devs in training. People they do not want touching sensitive code. This is what is called fluff code. Pointless stuff put into the game to either give the appearance of growth in the game, or to hide a lack of constant work being done.

Example of fluff include but not limited to. Loot drop kits, paintings, the librarian trivia game, holograms, fireworks, unmodded tusken clothing.

Yes there is a small dedicated group of poor devs. Whos only job is to come out with fluff on a constant basis. Why because some people like fluff, and people can be destracted by fluff. Fluff also covers up those three or four week periods that without fluff would be empty.

Here is the sick deal about it. Ch has been borked for going on a year now. Few chs are left, and people no longer use creature pets for anything. Result is its a low priority to fix ch roars, or to make the special attacks work. Lets look on the brightside maybe when they do get around to bringing back creature sounds we will get a more varied template of fluff roars. Wouldnt that be cool to actually recognize a pet by its roars. I for one always thought the birds should get actual bird whistles.

Now that is my dream to be chargeing a player with rancor in tow. Once ch pets are balanced useful again, and get some serious intimidation from a loud roar that shakes the building. I miss the old llc ground shakeing effects that used to be in game. Where you would go outside a players house and start shooting worrts. Have a person come out and scream at you to go away they are sick of their screan shakeing.

The game needs better sound work in my oppinion, or atleast a wider range of sounds that would be cool.

One fluff command I would like to see is /NamePet .

IF one no longer needs to put a name in for stylized commands then why have the four command requirement and an antique system to name the pet?

Because it makes the universe seem more real? Not trying to be flip here. Animals only learn their "name" if you keep calling them by it for a while in RL. This makes it seem more like you're actually training an animal and not programming a droid with fur.

Vert,

On a certain philosophical level many animals could not care less what their proper name are. I am certain that many of my snakes do not respond to their names at all. They respond to stimuli. Movement. Scents. Light. Darkness. Heat. Vibrations. Sound itself.

Many animals do not come merely because you say their name. Many come because at 4pm every day you put food in the same place day in and day out. Much of animal behavior is stimuli response. Is it too wet, dry, oxygenated, chlorinated, toxic, pH levels, competition.

My point is that an animal comes to its name really doesn't typify reality at all. I have never had one tarantula that comes because I said its name was "Fang" four times.

The truth is that only certain animals even respond to names at all. Dogs, primates, certain birds with higher levels of intelligence (namely the parrots and cockatoos). There are many more animals that do not respond. The rest if they respond do so with the use of clickers or whistles that are used in conjunction with the Pavlov effect. Treats being delivered when the animal responded to the right series. Over time the animal respond correctly.

This also works with names. If the only time you use a dogs name is to kick it then eventually it runs away rather than coming. Fangs come. Would only work if the tarantula has a higher order of intelligence and a reason to expect a reward. Aside from those two conditions being met, you can say Fangs come until your gums turn blue but it will not happen.

Reality? Nay. It is by game design. The devs say 4 successful commands must be taught to any droid with fur in order for a name to be applied. Names are arbitrary descriptive measures that we humans apply. The name itself is purely subjective with the individual CH, much like in real life. The pet cares less.

I want /namepet command pretty please with sugar on top. Mostly because my nameing dosent work period never has and probabally never will. So unless the devs put in a /namepet. My pets will perpetually remain baby graul mauler. Which is really blowing peoples minds, and makes me look like a complete idiot.

Like I have said here before I have tried every combination, and I have had other chs check my commanding out, and for the life of ourselves we cannot figure out why my pets refuse to take any name I offer them.

If you want a logical gameplay issue why the /namepet command would be good I can give you one. CH command training is annoying to all other player. Pet names arent even xp getters. Can we have just one part of the profession that is not tedious? Besides I really want to give my pets names. Evidenced by the thirty minute marathons I go through every few weeks in the hope that the devs have fixed my issue.

I could care less that people can put a pets name in a command. I am more concerned that I cannot even name my pet.

Can you give examples of the names you're trying? Have you done names other CH could get to work?

Rex, bill, reptar,Q, kitty, fluffy,oddball,grape.

Pretty much have tried every name I could think of. Tried to use the same name other chs have used on their pets. Its just really annoying.

Have gone through all the case sensitive possiblities. Changed my commands. Changed where I have trained. Have even tried macroing up a command set once in an attempt to make it so I could name all my pets the same name so that they were atleast not baby whatnot.

Absolutely no go, and I have actually had other chs check me out in game. People who I know can get their pets to take names. Its beyond them aswell.

The worst part is I have reported this probabally seven times, and always get the carbon copy answer. Its like they refuse to even read it.

Anyway in response to your question at this point I doubt its nameing restrictions. Unless my nameing restriction is completely bugged for some reason and will not accept any name.
