While reading the official 'Jump to Lightspeed' game guide which also includes updated information from the original SWG game guide, I came across the following:
Page 243 - Section - Creature Handler.
1st Paragraph
'Neither a combat nor a crafting profession, it is more of a support profession that enhances the character's other trades'
Yet in the discussions about combat rebalance on this forum I see TH describe the CH as a combat class.
Mixed messages are not helping the CH community to understand and support the Devs!!

Well, since you can be sure the manuals were printed before they began telling us specifics of the rebalance,I would take the rebalance post as the official word. We shall see. Personally, I don't want to rely on pets to defend me, as some have said here. I have always seen CH as a support class. However, if it is given combat class status, so much the better. Then as a Rifleman/Creature Handler, I'll be awesome.

Hmm....if CH is to be only a 'support role', it would be nice if they lower the skillpoint requirement.

CH was desribedas a combat class in the recent excerpt about the rebalance. Remains to be seen.

TH. Just to clarify. CH,as per RuneSabre, was to have community interaction before Profession Specific changes occurred to it yet again. This secret behind closed doors beta seems contrary to this idea. How do you propose we change this?
The question is: Since CH has been revamped almost 11 months (and by your own words looking at 14 months) are we looking at major changes?
You mentioned roles. Ironically. You asked about this months ago. We still have no word back from you. We are really a ranger who loots less but has pets for roleplay value as it stands. Is CH still considered a Combat profession in SOE's eyes?
Please just make it public knowledge so we may move on to another profession, if combat is something we desire.
Lastly, what does SOE intend to do to reward the CH's that have kept with it the whole time. At bare minimum you could fix the specials that were supposed to be part of our Nerf. It was the one thing that was supposed to benefit us yet remains broken.

is there anything here you can answer?? he CH community was revamped almost a year ago how will this effect us? are we combat?
throw us a bone here will you please
TH replied
Yes Creature Handler is a combat profession.
These changes will be discussed in the future, but let me say that Vertexon has been involved every step of the way and I have his utmost respect and confidence in his recommendations, as I do all of the correspondents. Further more, at Fan Fest, I spoke to many CH's and the combat changes that will be occuring are good.
All specials and combat moves will be covered in this Combat Upgrade and all involved professions will have a strong reason to play.

I learned early in this game to not trust the manual. It's too static. The game has been very dynamic for changes so no manual can keep up. Dev posts and TH should be the one's to listen too.

Yeah, I think I actually did laugh out loud when the guy at GameStop tried to sell me the SWG strategy guide.

If it helps, the CU is operating with CH as a solidly combat profession.

i use master CH as a support role for my BH grind and while creatures dont do anything with jedi bounties, they are supreme for npc bounty missions. i dont even need buffs or armour to grind the super long boring investigation 4. i can sit at a safe 60m from the bounty and snipe away while my rancors or be creature tank up close and they dont even take any damage.
i can live with support status, but it would be nice if we were "supported" in pvp with other players as much as creatures are beneficial at pve. if a rancor cant own or at least do heavy damage in a pvp skirmish or last more than 4 seconds with a jedi, then there isnt a whole lot of "support" offered.

CH is a combat support class like it or not. Now are they counting it as a combat for the combat upgrade yeah they are, and rightly so. The profession produces only one in game product at the moment combat. You have to look at it in some sort of context a tka cannot have a knuckler in one hand a pike in the other.
CH will one hundred percent stack with anyother combat class in the game.
A squadleader only stacks with other players.
A scout cannot stop and forage in a fire fight.
A medic cannot stop and craft a stim b in the middle of a battle.
A ch can call out a pet and use another combat class fully.
They cannot exactly say ch is not a combat class. When the only thing it produces is combat. Whereas a smuggler is a combat class and produces products and services other then combat. Do not confuse combat support with not being in the CU. The manual is right, but only technically
I know I am going to get flamed for this, but I cannot tell a lie ch is combat support. Seriously in need of the CU, but a combat support none the less. If ch came at the price of higher ham costs, or player mod deductions then a full combat statis would be merited, but right now the profession stacks one hundred percent that means I get the full advantage of my ch ontop of another combat class, and no other combination of combat profs in the game offer that.
