Thread: Vert, New Possible Issue

Brought this up at last Sunday's BEAST meeting. I was wondering if you could add to your wishlist to the part where you have datapad listed -- add the fact that the addition of all the space waypoints is making things a little harder for MCH's. I don't want to turn this into a griping thread, at all.

Let me explain in more detail. Most MCH's may have noticed this (although this is essentially an issue for all people, I think MCH's will be feeling this issue the most).

First week of JTL I landed on Dant to go grind FS for awhile, and noticed that I couldn't activate any waypoints, but I also couldn't delete any.

Waypoints -- it turns out -- were over 100% in my datapad. There were waypoints I know I had in my datapad that I couldn't see.

How I figured this out: I went back into space, and noticed that POIs that I had actvated for space stations had been deposited into my datapad side as an activated waypoint. I started deleting those, and went back down to the ground. When I got back to the ground, I started seeing other waypoints that were previously not 'viewable'. Yet, my datapad still showed 100%.

As MCH's, I typically already have 22% of my datapad occupied. I wound up deleting like 42 unused (which was fine) waypoints. But for a lot ofcrafters, I have heard a legit prediction, that there are a lot of waypoints they have that they can't delete.

Suggestions that were brought up at the meeting....

Temporary workaround: Commit waypoints to e-mail and do a /mailsave

To add to the wishlist: It doesn't hurt to ask, but a strong opinion was to ask if creatures can be exempted from datapad space altogether, and the total number of creatures we are allowed at any level limited by some other means (like they limit the number of vendors for merchants).

Also, add in the factor of the data command chips for droids, the droids themselves, plus vehicles and ships, the datapad space is becoming more limited. Then as an MCH, I find I am having more trouble keeping datapad space free.

Anyway, this is not a rant, just making everyone aware of the issue, and it is my hope that the issue can be remedied by a future enhancement.

Please do NOT make this a ranting thread, but definitely chime in with your opinions.

Thanks Tycalibur, we can definitely add this to the list. Hmm... so if you activate a Space POI waypoint and then later deactivate it in space, does it still retain a copy in the "normal" waypoint section?

But yeah, I'm starting to think more and more that some sort of "Datapad Revamp" might be in order. One thing that people had been asking for since the original beta was the ability to create nestable folders to sort data in. Wouldn't hurt to have lower impact icons for people with low end systems, too (like the little generic camera for the pet control device). And re-evaluating storage issues.

Yes, especially with the Space Stations.

Vert. If waypoints are just waypoints. Why can't they be stored on the client side, much like Ty is suggesting?

This would clearly free up valuable DB space on the server side? This all with icons rotating and detailed meshes really lags my computer. I shouldn't have to wait on certain notes from the server side.

I dont recall ever having this problem with EQ when I opened my inventory.

Another possible workaround is to use the /notepad to store the waypoints. Since this is a txt file, you can store them as /waypoint 1234 5678 and then cut-paste into your command line when needed. Of course, you'll have to manually delete it afterwards

I agree with Tycalibur

The datapad needs to be revamped with specific folders for specific things with each folder having a specific storage space limit. I would hope that this change would also give us a higher limit of space to store creatures and make the datapad overall much more effective.

Would also like to thank Tycalibur for leading the meeting last Sunday and still not sure if will be able to make the next meeting or not as am still finishing up moving into new place.

Break the datapad down more into a tab for CH, Vehicles/Starwhips. POI's and waypoints. Simple and effective

How about some affective use for Droid's Datapads besides storing schematics? They used to store pets, why couldn't we expand the datapad to store waypoints?

My ideas

Make npc cities into POI so people do not have to store city locations on their datapads.

Make pets and vehicles go into a new pad.

Give this new pad a droppable hot key bar. You hit ctrl B and the bar drops so a ch can choose to call a pet or vehicle from the bar just by pressing a hotkey. Save people from haveing to go into a datapad to call up commonly used items like vehicles and pets.

Draft schematics should be simplified. Perhaps make them just written items. So you can just run right down through them numbered. I have no need to see what each item looks like.
