Thread: * Tested the Varactyl *

Tonight on testcenter i got my varactyl and tested it out. Here's what i found...

- It seems to be the fastest mount available. The carrion spat had to gallop just to have a chance of keeping up with it.

- Its just a touch slower then the X34 landspeeder.

- It is a level 10 pet that doesnt count towards your pet slots for pets.

- It has a noticable slowdown going uphill and a slight speed up going down hills. More so then with normal mounts in both cases.

My feelings on the varactyly...

I think its extremely cool and very well done. its a great looking pet to say the least. Although its still to early to tell i can say that so far at least i havent caught myself thinking 'damn i could be riding a vehicle instead!' while ive been traveling around on it. Which is exactly what i think in the live game when im using mounts. I think the varactyl will be very well recieved.

I do wish it were faster tho (naturally) but its pretty nice as is.

Hope that helps.

did u say it is slow going uphill? isnt this thing supposed to climb vertical on walls and such according to the books. shouldnt it mover quicker going uphill? and i thought it was going to be as fast as a flashspeeder, not slower then a landspeeder

I rode mine today.. its pretty cool but watching the anim I thought, glad I have armour on because that side side movement would give me severe whiplash.

I got mine this morning on the TC-ep3 server.

Didn't have the time to try it out in the countryside as yet, since I wanted primarily to try to figure out a game-balance issue. However, I did ride it around the starport bay when I first booted up.

Personally, I thought its animation needed some tweaking. It seemed to act a bit stiff, almost like a fence rail. Looking at it's long, serpentine body and tail and its articulated arms, I was expecting animations that were a bit more athletic: a whippy, snakey animation on the tail, more fluid motion down the length of its body, etc. And the trick animations are boring. THIS is a creature that's agile enough to scale vertical sinkhole walls...?

BTW, a kaadu can already outrun an X-34. I am not overly impressed. PLus did you all find out you get no XP from training it? LOL, they fear our making xp off these. How cute.
