Thread: Creature Handler FAQ
Please feel free to correct me, add more, republish, whatever. I get a lot of questions in-game and I hope to help others out. A condensed post would be nice =)
Q: How many creatures can I have.
A: As a novice creature handler you can start with 2 creatures, most choose to take one pet and let it grow, and use the other "slot" and tame, teach, and release. There seems to be a bug where you can get more than 2 that stems from beta dealing with aggressive and non aggressive creatures, I've personally had up to 3 at a time.
Q: How do I become a creature handler.
A: You need Hunting 4, and Explore 4, from the scout lines. Before, the best way would be to grind to explore 3 and maskscent your way to victory. You will need lots of meat if you intend to be a bio-engineer, hides sell well, as do bones, and all three can be used for traps. Creature handler trainersare scarce, SWGCenter (.com) has a trainer list that is very helpfull.
Q: What is the best way to get xp?
A: For every command you teach a pet, you gain an additional 100 xp after taming. If you teach 4 commands all starting with the same first name "Bob Follow Me" "Bob Attack" "Bob Release" "Bob Group" you will gain an additional 100 xp. The name is case sensitive, "BoB Attack", and "bob release" will not work, furthermore, you must type the commandswithexact capitolizationfor the creature to respond. The CH (Creature Handler) line has many commands, so as you learn more you get more xp per tame, but others prefer to gain through combat.
Q: How do I get XP through combat?
A: It is imporntant to let your pet fully grow, having your pet fight things that con equivilant to it will get more xp. You have to work to find the "sweet spot." Sending your dragon against a wort will net you 1 xp. Combat with groups is a great way to get CH xp and weapon XP. A little medic ability never hurt. Again, it is very imporntant that your creature is fully grown.
Q: I'm a new Creature Handler and I can't find anyone to teach me skills!
A: Ctrl-P, go to the search tab, select profession, Bio-Engineer or Creature Handler, send out a few tells. After that, fork out the cash to the trainer. Its newbie town and we are all just learning.
Q: How do I get this creature to grow?
A: It grows all by itself, every 12 hours, 10 times, to the max stats you see in the datapad. There is **Nothing** you can do to help it or hurt it in growing, aside from killing it, which is bad.
Q: How do I call my creature?
A: Go to your datapad. Ctrl-D. Your creature should be there, now be careful, there is an option to delete your creature, don't ever hit that, if you want to get rid of a creature, take it out and release it, the delete function is bugged (it might think you already have a creature out and you won't be able to take any out, or tame any more), so bring up the radial on your creature and Call it. You can also store from here if your creature is close enough.
Q: How do I store my creature?
A: Bring up the radial menu on your creature, select store, it must be close enough.
Q: My creature was incapaciated! What do I do?
A: Get within 50m and get your creature to follow you after it gets up, if it was just incapped whatever incapped it shouldn't be attacking it when it gets up. Then store it asap, when it comes back it will be full health. Another option is to get up there and heal it, or jump into the fray. It is a wise option to check if creatures will deathblow (examine for killer) before attacking, and if you go for the lair make sure you are prepared.
Q: My creature died! What do I do?
A: The sad fact is that creatures die. I like to think we are the closest thing to Jedi yet in the game this way. Greive for your pet, move on, train another.
Q: How do I get my creature to attack?
A: I've noticed my creature will not attack unless I am within 50m when I give the order.
I'm a newbie too, so please add and correct =)

Q: What skills should I train first?
A: Mostly its personal preferance. Train what sounds fun to you. Many will tell you to train Empathy I first so you can heal your pets mind wounds. I do not find this nessary as all wounds on pets are totally healed just by storing them. Others will tell you to train up the Group Managment line to GM III so you can have two pets out at once (and double your exp), this is the path that I am personally going to take.
Q: What creatures can I train at each level.
A: Who the hell wants to write them all down? Not I. The best way to find out is to check the radial menu for the creature you want to attempt. If "tame" comes up you can tame it (though it make take many attempts to be successful). Wookies can tame higher level creatures faster, but we all end up with the same creatures at Master CH.
Q: Can I have faction pets and CH tamed pets sotored and/or out at the same time?
A: Yes, one has nothing to do with the other. I'm sure in a few weeks you will be seeing people with a 3 rancors, an AT-ST, two stormtroopers, and how ever many droids you can have all at the same time.
Q: You sound sexy. Would you like to have my babies?
A: Please send a photo to [email protected]
Q: What is the best pet to train at XXX skill level?
A: Diffrent pets have siffrent strenghts and weaknesses. No one pet is best for everything. Don't be afraid to experment, and find out which ones you like the best.
Them: can you sell me a rancor (or other dangerous creature)?
Me: Are you a creature handler?
Them: no.
Me: see your local bio engineer.
