Checked through the FAQ and it didn't answer my question as it pertains to me as a non-CH.

I bought a BE Gurrcat as a baby and he has reached "level 7" over the past few days. I assume I need a CH to train him. At what level does he need to be trained? Level 10?

In the case of your gurrcat, it can be trained at any time by a CH, who can teach it all the commands at his or her disposal. An MCH can of course teach any command in the game. The CL of the critter is irrelevant to the teaching of commands, with one exception: mount creatures must wait until they're big enough to handle the saddle art, which varies from creature to creature. Greater carrion spats can be trained as mounts as soon as they are tamed; lesser dewbacks have to wait until they're nearly their full adult size (which isn't very big) to be trained as a mount.
