Thread: So why dont we get ranged and melee defense

OK so heres a question.. if we are in fact considered a combat class why are we not given any kind of defense like ALL other combat classes? Now under the old system where our pets were our tanks and kept agro i can understand not having defenses. but for most of us is not our only combat proffesion, which means that our pets are no longer our shields. So i ask you if this class that adds to our combat lvl and is a combat class why are we not given the same bonus as other combat classes? Even Master danceers and Muscians have defenses (all be it 7 but its the point). Am i the only one that is consercned by this? shouldnt we also be treated like the other combat classes. If im going to spend 106 skill points on Master ch shouldnt i also get defense like every other combat proffesion? I love this profession and really want to see it made an effective combat class. Has this lack even been noticed by others? or as a community is our only concern for this profession wether or not Bio pets should be better than wild?

In this new system those of us who want an effective character need toask ourselfs hard questions about what our template is going to be, As a MCH/MBH i need to be as deadly as possible but with my 2 choices im left seriously lacking in defense and with no way of compensating. So here is my concern in a hopes that this can be addressed to the devs, please dont flame me an dtell me that if i dont like it i can leave I love my pets and have been a Ch forever i am merly bring forward thoughts like the rest of this community.

Keeping in mind that i think this is an issue that needs to be in our top ten,and therefor the purpose of this post. in order to be an effective profession (wether thats support or combat is a mute point really it adds to our combat lvl) we need the same advantages that the rest have, hopefully Ko will see this and take my words into consideration

I don't understand why we don't get any defense bonuses either.


I tried going the route of having CH as my only combat profession, so that I could do some crafting. But I was taking so much damage from white cons because of my super low defenses, that fighting was too dangerous to be worth it. And that was with some nice armor on too!


So now I'm CH/BH, and can actually hold my own in combat.

accually im not new but im going to assumeyour being sarcastic, as to the support combat class yes that would be how i interput that graph also however Carbineer, combat Medic, commando and fencer which are all in the same area all have defences along with toughness an dweopon speed and all sorts of other things .....

yeah maybe a little to sarcastic... anyways I completely agree with you. I would rather have better pets then defenses though.

That graph never divided the proffesions into "Combat" and "support", I think the general feeling inthe development teamis that eventually all proffesions need to no longer be just "support" and all be "combat".


The issue of CH being a combat proffesion has been argued all the way to the edge of the earth and back, but at either rate, the principle argument of "Pets are just helping their owner or groupmates" is totally invalidated in that pets are our weapons. Now, by saying pets are support, your saying a weapon is support, which makes every proffesion a support proffesion, since you can't very well be a rifleman without using a rifle to "support" you, or a pikeman without having a pike as "support", and those are clearly combat professions,so any way you slice it, every proffesion is combat. (Except Doctor,whichmight let you heal yourself, but CM does it better, faster, has other combat related skills,and it even has "Combat" in the name, come on now.)Even SL got a pistol cert, and several pistol accuracy mods to boot I think, andSL was the epitome of all support professions for awhile. So yea, either every profession is support, or every profession is combat, at any rate, the fact stands they need to be treated equally, so having defense mods for CH/ranger (Those rangers really need defenses) really should only be a matter of time if the developers decide its time for balance for either proffesion.


The only possible exception there is could be that whenever they get around to fixing CH bugs, (Most notably specials) we might find our offense is so much more powerful using CH+(Insert other combat prof here) that even more defense might simply be overkill, but then again, other professions mix and match their abilities to make the sum greater than the whole on defense, and now with the CU and cross-proffesion specials, offense as well. The problem of course being how your going to get your experience as a Pikeman/Commando/blah blah blah into some sort of combination with pets, they can't very well hold weapons or shoot blasts of fire while using /Overchargeshot or whatever, so its all a matter of what we can do offensively whenever specials/tracking/pathing/so on and so forth with CH is finally fixed.

because in theory our pets should be effective tanks, takeing the aggro for us.


In a sense they are our defense bonouses.


That is the theory one that has never worked out.


It started with the patch that gave a chance for the target to realize that there was a CH controlling the pet and it would directly attack the CH. That made it a requirement to have a 2nd elite profession for some sort of damage mitigation. Now the Hate system has just taken that adjustment and made it so that if you have novice marksman you can do more dps than your pets and garner all the "hate".


Don't ever expect defensive bonouses, the devs have never lived down CH being the only working profession when SWG went gold, therefore makeing it "pokemon galaxies" because everyone was a CH.
