That tears it! I'm tired of the whole thing. This morning as I was leaving the starport in Coronet City, I was sent a cryptic "Hey!" by someone I didn't know. Since I'm a fairly nice guy, I responded with my usual "Hello". Then the camel-breaking straw landed. "Do you have a CuPa mount?" My initial thought was, "Oh sure, Bucky, I am a Master Creature Handler and I possess the magical ability to pull your perfect pet out of my rear end!" Instead, I settled for a much simpler (and less abrasive) "Nope!", which got me a "?" reply. Now understand, up to this point I have been known to offer to take the person's name and go out and get them a wild pet at no charge because I love doing it. Then I recalled that just last night, I advised someone who was inquiring about getting a non-CH mount to get a swoop instead. Why not? The only reason to ride a mount in this game is the immersion factor and that seems to get thinner every day. Until they get the "Follow" command working again, I'm not providing another mount.
Oh, I'll remain a Creature Handler, but from now on, I'm displaying my "Wayfarer" tag (let them figure out what that is) so I don't have to answer inquiries about pets I can't recommend. I've heard a lot of Droid Engineers are going undercover too. In fact, I will probably retire from SWG as a Master Creature Handler. The developers have stated that their goal is to get people to try a lot of different professions and make PVP more attractive. Sony, I have no interest in dropping my profession and even less interest in butting heads with other players. Granted, this seems to be an easy way to keep people playing your game since you let your subscribers entertain each other and you don't really have to provide new content. I think the final result will prove otherwise. The way I've played my character, he would have been a good candidate for Jedi-hood, but the mere thought of grinding professions to achieve that makes me nauseous. What will they do when all the players they have left are 12 year-old Jedi wankers whose gaming skill was best evidenced by their ability to AFK gank thugs near the starport in Moenia? Can you even call it Star Wars anymore?
Thank you Star Wars Galaxies developers for so clearly showing me that you really are clueless as to how to maintain an interesting persistant world setting. Better luck next time.
