Ever since I recieved my first Kaadu from a generous CH way back before the days of mounts, I have always had a special place for pets in this game. My first Kaadu, affectionately named Putz, was a great companion and protector. At level 15 he was able to tank the creatures I was hunting at the time (Buffs? Armor? Bah never heard of them yet) and pulled my butt out of many a tight spot. When mounts came out it was like a gift from the gods that not only was my favorite pet a mountable creature but among the fastest to boot. Truly Putz was a creature without equal. Then the cursed modification to pet levels came. I could no longer call either Putz or the Bantha I had at the time. So I tried the creature trade in. Not wanting to risk my long time friend I Sent the bantha through first, it came out as a Bol.... Now I am really nervous but I have little choice and I submit Putz to the CH trainer for exchange and it works. Putz comes out perfect. Lvl10! But then I get a message that I have too many active pets. I look down and sure enough there is the *&% bol down around my knees. I quickly store him and see that I have no control over Putz. I quickly put in a call to the other folks in town and one is a CH. Unfortunately before he can get over to me Putz puts on a burst of speed and disappears forever. This instilled in me a deep loathing for CH trainers that I have only recently gotten over.
Remembering how much fun it was to hunt with Putz way back when I decided to give CH a try at last. I was planning on taking my character BH and since at the time it required master scout, I thought it might be interesting to have a large pet to accompany me as I apprehended those that had a price on their head. I have since given up on the BH idea and instead decided on Master CH/ Master Ranger/ Master Scout/ Rifleman 0300. Obviously I am going to be relying on my pets a lot.
I have come to view my growing menagerie as a collection of friends. It is tough to lok each little grubber, durni, and other cute critter in the eye and release them into the wild to make more room for the next one. However I am learning more about the creatures in this game then I have ever noticed before. There is quite a mix of personalities and behaviors that you do not notice charging in buffed in uber armor laying waste to all that stands between you and the next piece of loot firing away withwildly overpowered weapons and soloing Krayts and Kimos. This game is far more rich than most give it credit for.
Last night I caught my first Peeko Peeko. It was very skittish, took many many attempts and was faster than my burst run with all my ranger mods. Each failure resulted in educated guesses, tracking, and pure luck to find this skittish bird as it dissapeared from view and radar in 5 seconds flat. I chased the thing across the plains outside Kaadra for a good 30-45 minutes. Finally I was able to tire it out and tame it. This gave me a sense of accomplishment I have not felt in the game since a year and a half ago when I mastered music for the first time with a Trandoshan (worst class for this btw.)
After last night I find myself looking forward to my next great challenge. Perhaps a rancor that insists on ripping my head off each failure, or perhaps aReptilian flierthat will insist on making me chase it through half of Dathomir. This is something I never understood about CH in the past and many will never know.

I too have to admit to this terrible addiction. I did my research before launch and CH was all I ever wanted to be. At one point I wanted to try some other professions so I (stupidly) gave up CH. That only lasted 2 weeks before I went into major withdrawls. It looks like I will be a CH untill I give up my account.

I really have no idea why I became a CH. I started out as a scout and a friend gave me my cowardly Gurreck spinaltap (as mentioned above) who was my first pet and then I just remember harvesting stuff to get the hunting and exploration xp. But seriously, I have no idea why I became a CH. I've been one for over a year in a half (Since 2 months after launch) and will continue to be one until I no longer play this game.

What got me hooked was my firs tpet, a Dewback named Elvis a BE made for me and a Wookie MCH trained for me and mounted.... I had alot of good times with Elvis, and one day decided I was gonna do CH.... I make novice CH, and three months later, I had mastered the profession, and now its gonna take an act of god to get me to give it up.

Great thread!
I remember one of my early pets during Beta was a humbaba. Not savage or anything... just a simple humbaba. But he would draw a massive crowd when I pulled him out in town. People just weren't used to seeing all the different types of animals... and especially not in town under player control.
One of my favorite battle cries was "If you only knew the power... of the humbaba."

I was a creature handler before the big CH Nerf. I mastered two days after the nerf.. and I dropped the profession a week or two later. My favorite pet, my Grand Wrix, became quite sick. My two kimogila, aquired just after the patch, were wimps. All they would do is run, one hit, and they ran for their lives... I'd have to chase them and the enemy for hundreds of meters.
