Creature Handler Archive
Thread: A brief update on current CH issues.
I see a lot of repeat posts in here right now. I'd just like to address some of the issues.
Assuming they ever get the servers back up from Publish 17, the XP cap should be fixed and you should be able to progress past Novice Creature Handler. If you have any problems with this, PLEASE PM ME IMMEDIATELY so I can contact the devs and let them know it's not working. As my character is master on Live, I can't test this myself.
Secondly, the inability to see resists/special attacks nor use the special attacks is a *known issue* that we were told is going to be addressed as soon as is possible. This information was given to Vertexon to tell us prior to the end of his tenure as correspondent, and I have been told the same thing. I am as frustrated as you are with this issue, so I am hoping it is fixed sooner than later.
Converted BE pets are really not good. They apparantly were re-adjusted again today according to posts from people who managed to get on before the servers crashed. My advice to you is that unless you are really, really attached to a particular BE pet that you feel turned out really terrible in conversion, delete it and make room in your datapad for a new creature. I am continuing to pursue the conversion issue with the devs, but I feel personally that no matter what happens pre-CU BE pets will be inferior to new tames or newly crafted BE pets.
Speaking of new BE pets, Publish 17 brings a modified BE pet crafting system with a lot of potential for Creature Handlers. I feel that when the BE community gets through a few weeks of playing with the new system, we should see some excellent new BE pets. This is my personal opinion, but from the data I've seen that Lammergeier (the BE correspondent) posted on his forum, it seems to have potential. If you are interested in more information about the BE crafting system now, please look here.
The top 5 list is still on the table regarding "Hate", spawns, uncallables, etc. Since the #1 issue is presumably fixed when the servers come up, I will be looking for a new #5 issue to add to the list. I have some ideas, but feel free to post below what you feel our new issue #5 should be.
Again, I don't have all the answers, nor do I know *when* things will get fixed. I'm doing my best to keep the devs updated on our problems and will get info to you when there's something to give.
Thank you all for being Creature Handlers and for being a supportive community. A big welcome to all the new CHs who either respecced into it or decided to give it a try (and patiently waited out the broken XP cap). We're glad to have you along.
Ko, my nominee for the new number five issue is PET SPEED
In particular, the inablity of ANY pet to keep up with you on a mount
Also, the speed of cats and the speed of four limbed avians (pekos, reptilian fliers, lantern birds) as opposed to six limbed (gulginaws, mantigrues, kai-toks).
Was the reduction in speed intended, or inadvertent. If intended, why in the name of Yoda was it done. If inadvertent, when will it be corrected.
CH is an elite combat profession, yet we do less damage with our pets by a far cry then any other elite profession and I believe even the basic combat professions like marksman or brawler do more damage then our pets do. Granted my reason for being a CH has more to do with the fact that I like pets and my pets are my friends...but we are a combat class so we should be able to be effective in combat which we are not.
This is the top issue in my opinion - we are granted battle armor because we are what ???
I want to see us do something near the damage of even master marksman with a good gun will do this proff (marksman) isnt even elite combat. Granted all SOME CH want to do is pull tricks at the starport entrance but some want to take their kimo/rancor/cat ect.... into the wild and hunt.
Pet speed - intended or not ? STILL not answered this post is getting stale and appears many times on the CH forum.
Also there is no way a CH should have to delete their pre update pets this is very very poor on the devs part. A good convert system needs to be introduced. What would the jedi forums be like if you asked them to throw their current sabres in the bin and get new ones- They would light up and how long would it stat like it before a fix.

I'm pushing for pet speed myself... even if it is a BioE clone that moves a bit faster, I'd like to think that we'll be looking for DNA from WILD mobs with fast movement to craft fast clones.
many new 'values' were added to pet deeds (and presumably the tamed versions of these deeds... and presumably the wild tames as well), but movement speed was not among them. with some of the new stats currently bugged or useless, I could trade speed for something else.
EDIT: I've also heard VERY early and unconfirmed reports that the CL of a BioE clone has an effect on the SIZE of the pet.

High end pet taming difficulty andthe chance of dropping maskscent or being attacked if a tame fails. It's like they messed up the to tame modifiers. Also, it can be very frustrating to work on a lair for an hour or more, then to have the "can't tame that" bug crop up. This is one of the biggestissues for me. I vote it be added to the list.

We definately need the speed addressing. One of two things needs to be done. Either we get the old speeds back or they get rid of the 15 second wait to call a pet. If we are an Elite combat profession and get no added bonus like melee defence etc then why do I have to wait up to a minute just to get 3 pets out before I can fight? We are told our pets are the reason we don't have the added stats as they are our "tools of the trade" etc. Yet every other profession can get their weapons out instantly and even alternate during a battle. Imagine the outcry if a Jedi strolls along not weilding his lightsaber and is attacked. Sorry Master Jedi but you cannot pull your weapon out in combat and if you manage to run off quick enough you will need at least 15 seconds not being attacked to actually get it out. I have never understood this but the old speeds made up for it somewhat. I could jump in my landspeeder knowing that my razor cat wouldn't be too far behind. Now I have to store after I have finished a lair, zoom off then spend a minute getting my Greater sludgies out whilst trying not to get attacked!!

If i attack a level 55 rebel hes a challenge if i set me level 69 shear mite on him he loses I dont understand this at the moment i really dont. A level for a creature should denote hardness toughness in a battle at the moment this isnt the case - at least it isnt when it comes to CH pets. WHY id like to know this.

I'd like to see some pets with high enough running speed to keep up with a speeder so I would support this issue.
But I'd also very much like to see the 15 second wait to call a pet waived if the CH isn't in combat. This is a big part of the reason I don't group. Usually, by the time I get my pet(s) out and grouped, the fight is over because other combat classes don't have the patience to wait for the CH to get his pets out.
It would also make grouping as a CH much nicer if the CH doesn't have to be standing next to the group leader (or be the group leader) to invite a pet to the group.

I think the biggest issue we have is the continual bitchslapping we get by the Devs with the nerf bat.
This new nerf of committed CH is really the last straw. It was painful to make changes to a few of my good BE pets but I didn't even attempt to change my best ones. For most CH this is an emotive issue, and to come back in to find the pets we HAD been using are now to be nerfed to uselessness and might as well be destroyed is game breaking and heart breaking.
Why nerf us more when they can't or wont even fix the bugs they have created up to now?
Other pets that had been our favorites to use in combat are so nerfed now we can't use them. I finally just deleted Slash, my first really good BE'ed cat, because he just isn't worth using any more at level 28 (used to be he was more powerful than I was... now he gets owned by deep grey cons). I didn't need or want Slash to be uber... to go out tanking Kimogilae or whatnot... I just wanted my old battle companion back, the buddy who stood with me toe-to-toe against brackasetts on Dathomir and Pikets on Dantooine... Sure he got injured but he could survive the fights and we were in there together battling. Post-CU he gets capped in under 30 seconds... So there is no point to pulling him (hence I replaced him with a baby female narg, lower level but with 3x his HAM and hopefully, when she grows up, the ability to do what Slash once did).
Then there are the two good BE'ed pets, one with formerly good kinetic resist, the other with good energy resist (old system) that I am afraid to pull at all because even under the old system they are level 64... who knows what will happen when I "convert" them. These aren't originally my pets... originally they were the pets of a RL best friend of mine who no longer plays the game. They are my (and our guild's) lasting memory of that old character, long since deleted from the server. So what am I to do? Convert them into uselessness? Leave them uncallable forever? Neither is satisfactory. I liked calling Loki and Maxx and USING them because they reminded me of that long-gone character.
Even if the devs said, "Here we will give you free uber BE pets" many of us would not find it acceptable... it's not about the cost or the uberness... it's about the sentimental value you have for certain pets -- the ones that really helped you level up, or the one for example who, after I was incapped, stayed there and fought and took the final sliver of HAM off of that nightsister (he wasn't able to do much to her but I had her almost beat before she dropped me and he finished her) and then stood protectively over me while I woke up from unconsciousness. Yes, they are just graphical representations of numbers and program code bits, but many CHs form a sentimental attachment to certain pets... We LIKE our certain pets... and for me the major issue with all the CU crap from launch until now is, the devs keep finding new ways to make my old sentimental favorites impossible to even use anymore.
And THAT is my major CH issue. They need to make it so I can keep using and enjoying my favorite pets.
