Thread: CL = DL?

I've read the stickies, and didn't see anything that explained all of what happened. My first question is, is DL the new CL? I had a couple of CL 30-35 pets as I recall, that are now DL 58, 63 and 72. What the heck happened? That and my Greater sludge panther got nerfed. I had a few others that appeared to have lostHAM, but the GSP was my first tame, andhe's not the same as he used to be.Combat has me all screwed up, and even if my charhas a 80 by his name, he get's his arse handed to him by everything. Is there a thread that can set me straight, or is this a nightmare I'm not going to wake up from?

...DL? Sounds like you might be bugged, I've never seen a DL anywhere in the game before....all my pets have a CL :/.

In a way, you might say that CL and DL is the same thing.

Before CU, creatures had Creature Levels (CL) and to my knowledge

all it did was letting us know if a CH could tame it or if a BE

could sample DNA from it.

In this new system, everything and everyone has a Difficulty Level (DL).

It is used to calculate the damage you deal and the damage your

opponent does to you - depending on the levels of you and your opponent.

Example:Me (lvl 80) and my friend (lvl 50) fights a level 70 creature,

That creature will hit me for, say 100 points of damage.

I kill it quite easy.

The same creature turns on my friend and hits him for 600 points of damage.

My friend is about to hit the cloner 8)

But! If me and my friend are grouped, we are both considered level 80

in the way that that creature will now hit him too for 100 points of damage.

How the maths behind that works, I don't know.

While creatures still have a "static" level, like the level70 Craggy Bolma,

you might run in to a level 81 Craggy Bolma. That will tell you

thatit is a level 81mission spawn.

To balance the game, they have made it so when you take a mission,

it will be about the same level that you are.

(There are exceptions and capsin NPC cities and different planets)

What was the question again?

DL means Difficulty Level and is merely a way to tell you

how hard an enemy is.

CL is just the way it used to be, but a lot of creatures have

had their levels changed.

*Notes*

The numbers above are not correct. I made them up for the examples

Phew, that was a long post. That's what hapens when you try to

explain something in a foreign language

Gosh, your right, it is a difficulty level now.....sheesh, you just can't notice these things very much when their not mentioned in patch notes .

Anyway, they should work exactly the same as CL, except that now the CL is put into this annoying level system of combat.

Well, that clears up a whole bunch. Doesn't mean I understand the logic behind why they think they had to do it, or why they call it an "upgrade", but it does explain it. Bottom line, I've got a bunch of old CL 30-35 pets that a MCH can't or wound use in a sane state of mind. The pets I can pull, can't hold agro and I'm as soft as they come. Not to mention their stats got nerfed when converted, or their DL bumped so high they're worthless. Think I'm going to respec, and leave with happy thoughts about what CH was for me, for a time. My once extinct pet is now back on the hunting list, and that was probably my last anchor. To bad everything else seems just as screwed up, becuase I've not idea what I would enjoy playing as anymore.

Edit for typo.

CL was the original term, "Challenge Level", or "Creature Level". It was changed to DL "Difficulty Level" some time around the time of the Great Nerf, but CHs being an onery lot insisted on referring to it by its old name.

Now, of course, it's just "level", seeing as the CU brought with it the abomination of artificiality that is the level system.
