The major problem I have seen with Creature handler is the trade aspect. It allows non-creature handlers to get interesting little pets to play with,

Not that interesting creatures at level 10. Non-CH can't have any vicious creatures these days. If I see someone strolling round Coronet showing off his little sludge panther a bit too smugly I just whip out my 3 Greater versions. Soon shows them who's boss

The main problem I see is that the trading aspect of the CH profession allows people to get interesting pets to mess around with even if they arn't a CH. Allowing the true mechanical combat power of creatures in the hands of the CH themselves.

But CH's arn't able to truely ply their trading craft, because we cannot use vendors, can't advertise what we have, and can only have 22 animals to spread between our personal stock and our selling stock. (think if any of the other crafting professions were left with only 22 items they could ever have on hand)

My suggestion is simple and effective: Create a creature handler vendor.

In detail this is my proposal:

1) a new building the archetechs can create called a Padock. It is similar to a vendors tent but only can be placed by a Master Creature Handler.

2) Create a new ability under master creature handler called Padock attendant, which would be 1 vendor that works just like any other except it can only be placed in a Padock, and can only accept items that are previously tamed creatures...insted of inventory items.

The simpler version is just giving the Master Creature Handler 1 vendor that they can put tamed animals on for sale, but I felt the padock concept kept with the feel of the game and could add an interesting visual effect.

(also curently the pet-trade-in system seems to be bugged and unsuable at all, this would allow non-CH to get creatures into their datapad to allow them to use the pet-trade-in-system effectively)

My hope is this small addition would bring the Creature Handler back in play with the other economy professions.

Thoughts?

Great thought. I mean has there ever been anything like this before? I have been ingame for about 8 months and the Bazaar has always had the catagory to sell entity's which a creature would come under but I have never seen it work. Just under deeds. Meaning CH just get to train them not sell them.

There has always been an entity category on the bazaar, but pets have never been able to be sold there.

There is a limited number of level 10 pets that can be given to non-CH. Only a handful. Unless something is changed to where pets can be reduced to level 10, there won't be much selection for us to sell to non-CH customers. Most of the level 10's available are mounts.

A few ideas I threw around back in in 2003:

  • Make wild pets deedable.

  • Make it so CH can disable commands on pets or disable their attack capability.

  • Make it so CH can reduce creature levels to 10 so all can enjoy pets.

  • Make a stable type system for selling pets, or at least let them be sold on bazaar and vendors.

  • Create a market for CH other than level 10 mounts that take a week to grow to mount age.

You know what we were told back then? BE's are supposed to sell pets and we're the tamers/trainers. BE's have the market.

These ideas have been hashed around since the beginning and they haven't done anything yet for us. I doubt we'll see these ideas come to fruition.

The only pets i have been asked for beside mounts were horned rasps, agrilat swamp rasps , durnis and even a corelian butterfly.

All the customers were either dancer or ID
