Thread: range & melee defence
CH has the mod in the form of the pets we use. They act as both melee and ranged defense. On a npc technically these can be around 1000 points. Seeing as if your letting the pet do all the attacking and fighting. You cannot possibly ever be hit by a ranged or melee attack from the enemy. On the other hand pet ham is also like a shield between you and damage. So our mod fluctuates on how we use our pets to fight. Thats the explanation there for you.
Though I do think that chs probabally could use a very modest increase in that area. Even if it is a +20.
It would be an inbalance because you would still have extra dps and extra ham to absorb damage, and when the specials get back up and running. Oh yeah I have seen the devs have done some work on the specials codeing. Some mobs overly special on you atleast on kashysk. In other words we are tradeing off some defense on our avatar, and getting reinbursed in the dps.
The doctors roll has changed he or she is a primary healer now instead of novice medic which cost a pitance in the previous system. The docs in other words are plenty vuln and without any defenses in that profession they will be picked off quickly in post cu combat.
Its not a bad idea though to give CH a modest bonus in the ranged and melee defense though, and the devs may do that. Afterall we really are still testing the system, and if it turns out most CH templates arent holding up then the devs may decide to do that.
Not that I wouldn't want innate defenses as a ch, heck I'l take anything they want to give us, to heck with balance lol. gimme gimme gimme hehe.
I say ask for the world and maybe we'l get a parking spot lol.
Now as for doctors/medics... One thing many people aren't aware of is, Like in EQ2, when docotrs heal someone in combat they generate a large ammount of hate attracting the agro of the mob untill it can be diverted by someone else. Without some innate defenses a doctor would fall in combat after his first heal.
I'd have to agree on this, if a Doctor gets +50 ranged/melee defense then a CH definately should. I can see a Combat Medic needing the defense because well, they are in the middle of the fights. IMO CH is in the middle of the fights more than a Doctor yet the Doctor gets more ranged and melee defense. Yes you get a pet, but Doctors can heal, I think that giving +50 ranged/melee defense for MCH would be a very good thing. Not only would it help in PvE when your pet is having trouble tanking, but it would finally somewhat balance a CH in PvP. Currently, a CH is at a big disadvantage because he is missing out on another elite or hybrid combat profession with defenses and abilities. When stacked with the fact that pets undergo the PvP damage reduction and unless it has changed, they still take full damage from other players, this puts a CH at a big disadvantage in PvP.
I don't see how adding +50 ranged/melee defense would cause any unbalancing to the profession. IMO it is something that issomewhat neededand would be greatly appreciated by people who give up having another combat profession to have evil trios of death bunnies to annoy enemies with.
