I noticed that unlike most characters I can have my full compliment of pets and also use a combat droid at the same time. It was very handy for grinding out squad leader recently, but the new combat droids, while terrible tanks can dish out a bit of extra damage. If you use a probot and give ita different attack command, sending it in after the pets engage so it won't draw agro it can be a nice damage compliment. And as mentioned it helps padd your group for extra combat Exp and the like.

If used properly, there are particular models of combat droids that make really good tanks. Droids are fearless and will never run if struck in a fight, they are immune to all states, and they heal VERY quickly with a droid stim.

Well they are ok tanks. No droid currently in the game is going to tank like my LV65 Gurcat with light armor 60% kinetic and 12K ham. Thats from a master CH perspective of course. Droids tank decently compared to other non-CH pets. (thier effective ham is close) although there is more varriance in the bio pets.
For me they are just extra damage, and their damage output is better than their tanking power. The non ch BE pets have much weaker attacks than a top of the line droid. Personaly I use my pets to tank and the droid to help take down the target.
