I really think it would be great if creatures had the ability to move around in herds across planets, instead of being tethered to a lair or static spawn area. It would be neat to spot a huge bantha or picket herd trekking across a planet, stopping to graze/rest/etc. There could also be cool bonuses from herds such as...
...The herd could slowly grow as it wandered around (Creature agro and player agro would be a built in population cap on the herds), and Herds could have a higher percentage of babies manifest from them over time. And creatures within the herd could get defensive bonuses to help them a bit. Maybe you would see the 'grouped' icon if you clicked on one so you could tell they were in a herd like with player groups.
It could be interesting finding a herd and then "shepparding" it so-to-speak so as to get a handful of babies. Not to mention it would just be great looking to see a big herd of creatures migrating, especially thru player cities hehehe. 8)
Just a thought to chew on...

Interesting idea, and wouldn't it be funny to see a Rancor (or two) cut a swathe through the herd as it passes a little too close.....

Most definently! Or a herd that got to close to a sarlacc 8) Of course Krayts and Kimas would be major herd smashers as well =) On the other hand it would be sweet to see a rancor get overpowered by a large herd.

This probably would not be the hardest thing to implement. I have to wonder how many creatures would get stuck in rocks crossing from one side of the planet to the other.
What would really be funny is seeing some kind of mass migration as one would see in Africa. 100's of thousands of animals all charging acrossed a plain or getting bottlenecked at a river.

More likely bottlenecked at some "stronghold" Player city trying to squeeze their way through houses parked right next to each other to "protect" the shuttleport...

Seeing a spooked herd of a few hundred critters rampage away would be priceless, as would seeing a few hundred thirsty bantha gathered around that little imp shuttle outpost on tat due to the pond there.
I wouldnt imagine this would be a hard thing to implement either pluto, and yeah i have to agree there would be oodles of herd critters stuck on rocks and such im sure. hehehe. I guess they would be considerd the' sick and weak' of the pack eh?

What about if you had a herd of creatures that were endowed with the ability to make the ground shake as they walk!
A couple of hundred tortons' making their way towards you would surely be high enough on the Richter Scale to level a small player city??!

You all forget about the #1 heard smasher of all. Players......It would take maybe a day before you would never see a heard again without someone who is either grinding jedi or grinding the latest FOTM.

Why dont all us creature handlers unite on each server to create an event where we all bring one species of pet native to that planet, call it outand befriend them all to one person and that person leads them through a city. It seriously would not be hard....the hardest part would be getting enough creature handlers.
I had this idea about a month ago and always wanted to share it hoping it may one day happen.I also had an idea which of course involves a lot of creature handlers, and everyone would bring squills into Mos Eisley and make it seem like a hugetroop (like at least30 squills)of squills has come down from the mountains causing terror in the city. This would have to involve some volunteers that would be willing to duel the pets and be willing to be incapped/deathblowed by themto make it seem more like they are attacking the city. Since squills are supposed to be the bad apples of Tatooine i thought it would be more fitting for them to be attacking citizens in Mos Eisley. You could add a lot more details to this and it could end up being a really cool event.
I dont really have the time to organize something this large scale but I am still hoping someone soon or a later might.

I would love to see more herding and free-roaming behavior from the animal AI. The whole "clustered around lairs" phenomenon really prevents a lot of cool potential interactions (like predator/prey relationships) from fully manifesting.
And yeah, stopping to drink at water would be another great one.
During the E3/Celebration 2demo a a few years ago, there was a kaadu scripted to do that in the Sacred Place set. Looked very cool with peko pekos flying by in the background.

You're right.
Herds would be a magnet for grinding Jedi. They ruin everything with their actions.
Still, I'd love to see herd behavior, and as Vert mentions, some predator/prey interaction between the different mobs. Cannibal dews descending on lesser swarming dews, for example. Sludge panthers going after kahmurras or paralopes. Swamp cats going after kaadus or gnorts. You see some of this on Corellia, where Corellian butterflies will attack durnis or gubbers in the yard trash zones.
