What pets do you all use in PVE? I love being master ch, but after getting tka novice i can't justify keeping it. I hoping that someone here can help me decide.

If you're a TKA, look for a pet with decent armor and knockdown (if that even still works . . . I had one that knocked down a lot, but I got rid of him ages ago and haven't had another since). Mine was invaluble as a tank for me when I had some Pikeman on my main.

I am a TKM/MCH and really only use my pets to up the mission payouts. I have two CL 35 Narglaches. They have light armor, 60% kinetic, and special attacks. I thought I needed some kind of DOT but really do not. With all the timers for call and store, the fact that pets can not keep up with bikes, and the fact that you have to keep them healed, I have not used a pet in combat since the the "Big Nerf." Basically, it saves me having to join a solo group but that is it. I keep MCH because I search for rare and unusual pets. In combat they are actually a hinderance.

Oh, and I have not had a pet with knock down knock anything down in a long time. I believe that was stealth nerffed some time around the BE redo.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the days of solo tanking high level mobs for TKMs, Swordsmen, etc.is probably about to end. These classes will most likely need medic/doctor backup after the combat rebalance. Why shouldn't they though? They spend 92 skill points, buy buffs and 90% composite, and plow through just about anything. Balance is WAY out of whack in SWG right now.

When the dust settles from the combat rebalance, CHs should be relatively stronger... e.g., buffs and armor nerfed, pets have already been nerfed so they aren't getting any worse, and the devs have admitted that CH is too weak.

Paired with a solid combat/elite profession, CH will more than likely be one of the best PvE soloing professions (as it should be)... unless the Devs do something really cruel like not allowing you to use any specials while using a pet. So, get rid of your pets and CHfor the short term and enjoy your TKM... or hang onto your pets and CH so you don't have to suffer through CH exp after the rebalance

Actually, if the Nerf to CH is an indication of the degree of Nerf they plan for the combat rebalance, I suspect it will last as long as the Crafting Nerf did, one day. If you remember that was to "Balance" the crafting professions so that 1 or 2 Masters could not control the market. So many crafters quit that SOE realized that without crafters, the game was over. Well, without combat characters there is no game either. When Mr Uber gets creamed by a Gubber the outcry will be huge. Alot bigger than the outcry from MR. Uber Crafter because most of the people in the game have at least 1 combat profession. You can not throw a stone in any city without hitting a dozen FOTM templates. Just look at all those people kneeling around the Master DR any time of the day or night. The SOE statitistics always show around 70% of the player base is focused on PVE, mostly solo of in small groups. Since they already Nerfed the MOBS they are not going to get any easier with the "Balance." So, when MR FOTM gets buffed, puts on his armor, and can not kill a thing woth killing without a dozen people in a group...... These forums will probably go private again. LOL

The effect of the crafting nerf would have been the exact opposite of the effect the devs claimed, and the elite crafters were the first to point out that they were acting against their own selfish interest in opposing the nerf. What it would have done was to make "12 point" crafters even more firmly entrenched at the top of the professions than they were before.

Tazz vonMannstein Baron-Administrator of Corellia, master navigator of Corellia, captain of the Gregarious Gurreck

Sio Babble MBH/MCH/Cabana Boy; master of Tyson, the GNORT OF DEATH

Jeffn Akbar Nerfed from here to Lok MD/MCM

Zanti Agaesia Bothan MBE, 12 point Master Chef, Havoc Squadron Ace pilot

Yep, I certainly hope the devs don't screw up SWG and turn it into another forced grouping game (ala Everquest). The rebalance should be focused more on balancing the classes against each other... instead of nerfing every class into oblivion so we can't solo on advanced planets (Lok, Yavin, Dantooine, Endor, Dathomir).

Honestly, if I can't solo reasonable mobs on advanced planets after the rebalance, I'll cancel my account for the 2nd and last time. I quit Everquest and resubscribed to SWG becauseI just got married, bought a house, and started a new job all within the past year. I can only play for 1-2 hours at a time, and I'm betting that there are a lot of others out there like me. The last thing I want to do is log in, spend 20 minutes looking for a group, another 20 minutes getting missions and travelling, and then bailing on my group early because my time is up.

I was a Master Weaponsmith at the time. I know that. That is my point. The SOE "Balance" had the opposite effect they were looking to achieve. This was pointed out to them the day it hit the Test Server. They ingnored all the clamoring and went live anyway. They changed their mind the day of or day before the Publish went live. Why? Crafters were quitting in droves. So many that they introduced a "Free Trial" for 2 weeks to get back the ones that quit before they backed off the publish. I suspect the same will happen with the balance. There are alot of players getting bored with the lack of content and good loot. So, they come out with more and harder content to keep them happy and in the game. You will remove most of that content in one fell swoop with a major combat nerf.

Think about it. Say I can now solo something for good loot and a challenge. Now, I have to hassel with finding a group of people of questionable abilities, possible Ninja looting, and our only Dr's kid just threw up so she has to quit after 20 minutes... So we have to go find another Dr.. Which is more fun to the bored guy who demanded more content and loot. Couple this with the fact that all of those suckered into to signing up for a year at realease are now going month to month because the year is now up and they are leary about this rebalance, and the Cities will go back to being one or two blue dots at the Starport.

UO has survived in large part because you can't solo everything. The reason people are bored and think there is no good loot is because they are way overpowered. No one and I mean no one should be able to solo a rancor or kimo and the fact that they can is a big part of the problem. I have several friends in UO and the process of getting a group together, making sure you have the right mix of people, and organizing the hunt is as much a part of the activity as the actual hunt. It makes this an event instead of something to fill a couple of hours till you can think up an event.

The content is lacking because it is too easy not because there is a lack of things to do. The attitude that you should be able to solo everything is a direct result of the overpowered player not the reverse. I just reached master rifleman and I'm stunned by the difference. Before I got that last box I had to plan how I would take out a nest of bole bol alone. I took a long time to clean out a nest of famba using conceal shot. Now bole bol don't even figure out where my mask scented body is until they are nearly dead. It turns an interesting challenge into just gathering resources. I like the that the power makes me a more effective as part of a team against the large creatures but it definitely lowers the fun on the more average, everyday creatures. Challenges make games fun and buffs and comp armor leaves very little challenge hence boredom.

Sure people will complain that are accustomed to soloing on dathamore or endoor but they will adjust or move one. The retention for people who never saw the current imbalance will probably be higher because they won't grind through a profession in a week and run out of challenges.

Bingo on the housing statement. I was very fortunate to have an 18x18 (lg tower brofre the custom stuff) in Fel. When the last land installement came out (Malas?? I fogot already), I also got lucky and placed a little cutom patio right on the main road. Even tho it was tiny, me and a friend of mine had 8 vendors and sold a ton of crap there. My 18x18 in fel never was a good spot for vendors, but it was an awesome location for everything else. It was South of Minoc right up against the mountain, directly opposite the covetous dungeon entrance. Tons of forests, the newbie cave and loads of mining. And I wasn;t surrounded by houses.

I miss the place.. but I am very happy the way they made sure the land in SWG was HUGE. Nice space in this game.

As for pets in PVE... I adore my 5 high-kinetic pets. They range from level 31 to level 40. They allow me to take down two ancient bull rancors with relative ease. Of course, I'm hitting them with Mindshot 3 with a powered-up, Damage sliced DXR6a acid rifle too.

Most CH in the game moved on to other professions leaving a few die hards, like myself. Alot of CH just quit the game entirely because they did not want to move on to the FOTM. Of those left, most picked up one of the FOTM skills to be able to stay CH. Your comments tell me you are a PVE, mostly solo, player. Why did you pick up MR? Why didn't you spend your time as CH asking to join a hunting group? People play games because they are fun. Why do you think there are so many ex UO players online here?? Yeah, a few die hards will stay. Good luck getting a group together.
