Out of curiosity what CH skills aside from management 4 should I get with the 20 skill points I have available? Eventually I would like to find a nice mountain dewback for a new mount, but that might be a few weeks while I xp through CH and commando.

I'd go with the training line to maximize your datapad space; if you're interested in taming aggro critters (just have to have a kreetle in your menagerie, for example) then you'll need the Taming line. The Empathy line is good for the trick commands.

Sorry for the rather silly question. But I just picked up CH as a skill and I just got my first pet and I cant for the life of me figure out how the heck I name my pet. Also Im looking at going 0,4,0,4 in CH due to skill point limits, the management 4 is locked but with the 20 skill points I have left are there any suggestions you master CH could give me. Perhaps 1,2,1,4?

You need four commands to name a pet. As a novice CH, you only have three commands you can train.

Once you've earned a tier one box that grants a command, you can name a pet.

Hi, I can only answer your pet naming question:

To give a pet a name, you must have enough skill to teach it 4 commands. At the forth command, a thinking bubble will pop up above it's head with it's name and a question mark ("?"), this means it now understand it just got a new name.

To do this, use the name you wish for it to have before every command you teach it, like this:

- Petname store

- Petname follow

- Petname attack

- Petname stay (Pet goes "Petname?")

After this, you retrain it so that you don't have to use it's name all the time:

- store

- follow

- attack

- stay

They will work on the first try as you have already tamed and taught it those commands.

Your pet will now have any name of your choice. I hope this was of any help.

Wow you guys are quick on the draw here. Ok to put a new spin on this I bought a dewback that was lvl one and had it trained while I was working on the last of the scout xp I needed for the CH prerequisits. The dewback i hope will one day be my mount if the power little guy doesnt get killed too many times . Anyway he doesnt have a name but knows all the commands a master CH could teach em. Is there anyway I can retrain him to have a name now or is he forever doomed to be names "a dewback?"

Four of his commands will have to be reset as outlined above:

Trigger attack

Triigger store

Trigger follow

Trigger trick one

Or whatever, to rename the dew Trigger.

It is possible that more than the four commands were linked to the name; many of my pets have commands linked to their name on purpose, such as Trigger stay and Trigger guard, as I might want to have Trigger stay, but not Silver (so they have pet specific names) or assign Trigger to guard someone specifically in the group, likea doctor, so in case the doc gets aggro, the dew comes to the rescue. So you'll have to look at all the trained commands and determine which ones are tied to the name, and retrain those commands. Once a majority of the names agree, the pet adopts the new name and discards the old one.

If you are not going to master CH, dont even start.

BEs can make acceptable non CH mounts and even pets with moderate tanking abilities.

only become a CH if you absolutely love it, and absolutely have to master it.

I'm having a problem with names not sticking.

I was naming a new BE pet gurrcat "Mischief" last night and it didn't take. Despite putting Mischief in front of 4 different commands. Why is that? I can train 4 commands. And the person who was trying to teach me how to do it noticed that it just wasn't working right.

I've named pets before. But for some reason BE pets just don't seem to take names from me.

Also...If you give the command without a name, can you later give it with a name to try to name the pet? I really wish they would just have "Set Name" come up in the radial menu. I don't like having my best pets called just "a gurrcat" and the like.

As I've understood, I've had loads of troubles with naming but am currently making it work, the server can refuse a name for various reasons.
I've spotted:
Uses of rings and umlauts in name. Åke was rejected and so was Mötörhead.

If a creature has the same name it might be rejected. I don't know if this relates to species or if it's only on Mischief per server.

Some names might be banned for offensive reasons. I haven't tried this out so this is pure speculation from my part but you can always try naming your Rancor some racial slur or something sexual and see.

The name might also be rejected just because you are unlucky. Do over and do right.

Also, some names are banned because they are too closely associated with the Star Wars universe. Names like Princess, Skywalker &Jade just to name a few. Not just the movies but the book histories too, so the name you want may have something to do with the game universe, no matter how small.

Partly true, but it's a good bet the 10K lvl 10's will bite the dust, probably maxing at about 4K ham. A lvl 36 BE willkick butt onany legit lvl 10, even the illegit ones, due to armor and resists.
