Thread: Problem with Fleeing MOB's

I recently got bored and joined the Empire. But I'm having a heck of a time completing any of the
faction missions because the stupid MOB's I have my pet's fight run away, and my pet follows out of range. Then of course the MOB respawns back at the camp I'm trying to blow up, with full stats, and my pet is gone!

I'm a MCH/BE combo, so I have NO combat capability, so my pet's are it. Anyone encounter this and have a way to work around this?

well, I've found my pets lately actually USE their special skills, and my swamp gurrcat happens to have a posture down. Can't run away when they're kneeling, so especially as a BE, make a pet that can KD or posture down and when the enemy gets to about 5-10% HAM remaining on any bar, call for it to do it's attack. They will sometimes turn and run 2m before realising they can't move, but at least they won't keep running.

A second possibility would be to drop some stuff for novice brawler and taunt the animal into attacking you instead, but that might not be a good success

Take note of which NPC's run and which don't. WhenIdo rebel faction missions, I've found that stormtroopers and scout troopers run exactly as you describe, but officers don't. So when choosing missions I avoid stormtrooper camps like the plague and stick to Imperial Encampments. The amount of faction points aresimilar.

I'm sure there are rebel equivalents

I have this problem with Selonian destroy missions on Corellia; the Selonian captains have a very annoying tendency to kite an attacking creature pet away from the mission objective. My kusak stalker was kited away to Yoda only knows where one time; when I called him back to the data pad, he was at about 10% of his health bar. I assume he took care of the Selonian captain, but I never found the corpse.

Rogue CorSecs and Dralls like to do this, too, and Stormtroopers run like little girls away from dewbacks, even, which can be incredibly annoying, especially when you're drawn 250m away from the mission objective and an entire new set of NPCs is spawned to guard it.

I've had a lot of problems with this...my pets are attacking, and suddenly, the mob and my pets are running away.

The way I handle it is to spam my pet attack hotkey. i switched it to /tellpet so that i would n't spam other people. It almost always stops the mob and the pets in thier tracks.

If they're teleported away though, there's nothing you can do.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try a couple of the suggestions. I've so far noticed that high ranking rebel's like generals or commando's run while the lower level guys kinda sit there and take it... So far I've had this problem with the LARGE REBEL CAMP missions. I'll definately look to make some pet's with knockdown or cripple, since I think that'll do the trick. BTW, what types of damage do the rebel or imp's do? is it Blast or Energy? That way I can tailor some pets for this purpose.

When I do stormtrooper missions. I just attack the base with a Rancor. They pretty much, bar one or 2 of the stormies stay focused on the Rancor. Then I fanshot the lot of em or pick them off one by one if they have run away to far.

But if your buffed, I say stick the pet on the base and attack the npcs while they are pre occupied on your pet.

I have my attack and follow commands set up on hotkeys with macros:

/pointat

/tellpet Attack

and

/beckon

/tellpet Follow

This way I'm not typing "A" all the time or "F" and annoying friends, and it also looks cool as hell.

When the mobs run, I click my "follow" macro and the pet comes back to me with the mob trailing. I then end its suffering with an advanced strafe or two.

"There were young knights among them who had never been present at a stricken field. Some could not look upon it, some could not speak. They held themselves apart from the others who were cutting down prisoners at my lord's orders, for the prisoners were a body too numerous to be guarded by those of us who were left.
Then Jean de Rrye, an aged knight of Burgundy who had been sore wounded in the fight, rode up to the group of young knights and said: "are ye maidens with your downcast eyes? Look well upon it. See all of it. Close your eyes to nothing. For the battle is fought to be won, and this is what happens if you lose."

OK, I'll try these tips. Also, thanks VohnAxelarth for the pointat and beckon, I didn't know about those, they are way cool. I've seen to notice that tellpet works better than shout, and yeah, it is less annoying to anyone around.

Ah, nope, I'm just an MBE/MCH. The most combat I have is novice Marksman with Pistol's 2. Not much room for combat xp with my 2 professions
Maybe I should drop marksman and do brawler? But will that increase my chances of getting beat down?

Hehe...I feel your pain man. As a CH/BE, I've been asking myself the same question, but I seem to always come up with the same answer lately:

Yes, you're far more likely to get the crap kicked out of you.

My current play style involves me fighting nekkid (WOOHOO!!) so that I regen enough action and mind to keep spamming my pistol's specials, and keep my heals flowing. If I move too close to a mob that my pets are fighting, it usually turns and smacks me. Now, if you go brawler, odds are that it's gonna ignore your pets the majority of the time and just smack you instead. Even with armor (instead of nekkidness!?! tsk, tsk...), that can easily end up with you incapped or killed on bigger mobs.

If you're going to try the brawler thing, get some awesome kinetic armor, a good PSG mark 3, and keep your stims handy: you'll need them with the higher end mobs.

**On a side note: to help with this you might want to make yourself some med healing clothes so you can use at least stim c's.**

The running stormies can be a problem, but you can also use it to your advantage sometimes drawing a trooper far away from his buddies.

Don't forget you can switch targets. When one stormie flees sick the pet on anoter one and so on. They will generaly come back. Alternately you could get them to fight you first (make sure you have protection). Finaly you could go for a pet with a KD or posture change special and spam that on the bad guys. Oh and you may want to try going all ranged attacks with your pets, the stormies are less likely to run. Add a droid in for extra firepower.
