Could people release pets and they would actualy appear there? I recall a long time ago reading about people always releasing rancors in citys and such.

In the olden days, it meant something to be a MCH with a rancor, but dont remind me of the olden days.

Yup, back in the day, releasing a pet actually released it. Even probots would stick around (they appeared aggro, so they stood out in the Corellia starport, lol).

I was sorta bummed when I first released a pet and it vanished

YEAH i remember someone releaseing Ravenous Torton in Mos Entha. When it was almost dead they like re-tamed it or something lol.. put up one hell of a fight for all us noobs though hehe

Though releaseing a pet would have the same effect anymore, release a Rancor in Bestine .1 s later all the TKM Swordsman, pikemen, fencers, Riflemen, you get the picture engage. .2 seconds later its dead.
